🌊 San Antonio's flood watch holds through Friday evening
A second, stronger round of storms moved through the San Antonio area overnight into Friday morning, with the city and Bexar County under a Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) for excessive rainfall and a Flood Watch in effect through 7 p.m. Friday, the city said in a news release.

Thursday's first round came through lighter; forecasters had called for 2-4 inches of rain citywide overall, with isolated totals of 6-8 inches possible.

City services are keeping normal hours. 311 extended its hours through 11 p.m. Thursday and reopened at 6 a.m. Friday, and Public Works, San Antonio police, fire crews and Homeless Services staff coordinated readiness plans, including outreach to unsheltered residents in flood-prone areas.

For real-time updates as conditions develop, residents can call 311 (210-207-6000), check SA.gov/Alerts for city alerts or SA.gov/Floods for flood-prone area mapping and safety info.

🏗️ Schertz adopts new economic development game plan

Schertz City Council voted unanimously Sept. 24 to adopt a new economic development strategic plan, the product of a seven-month process with consultant TIP Strategies and a 40-member advisory committee.

The committee benchmarked Schertz against 14 peer cities and the three counties it spans, building the plan around three pillars: business attraction and retention, workforce development and “quality of place” investment.

Priority industries named include advanced manufacturing. defense tech and aerospace, food manufacturing, IT, professional services and energy.

Gov. Abbott storm warning

🏛️ Gov. Abbott: storms could hit a “far more vast” stretch of Texas this week

Gov. Greg Abbott warned severe weather would affect a vast portion of Texas along the I-35 corridor—from El Paso to the Panhandle—bringing heavy rainfall and the potential for flash flooding.

The system reached West Texas late Sept. 28-29, with the heaviest impact expected Sept. 30; multiple areas could see up to 2 inches of rain per hour. Abbott said the system would affect a “far more vast portion of the state” than July’s storms, which killed two people and swept vehicles off roadways.

He urged residents to prepare homes and families, monitor conditions at texasflood.org and follow the “turn around, don’t drown” protocol during peak storm hours.
