Universal Kids Resort sets July 1 opening date

Universal Kids Resort will open in Frisco on July 1.

What you need to know: The theme park is a first-of-its-kind that is designed for kids. Guests can start planning their vacations with tickets sales and hotel bookings now available, according to a May 28 news release.

Tickets, packages and the first annual pass option for Universal Kids Resort are officially on sale.

Looking back: The theme park was announced in January 2023 and it was always geared toward young children and families. The project later broke ground that year and the hotel joined the Frisco tourism group in early 2026.

Quote of note: "When Universal opens, it's going to be something that's really unique about growing up in Frisco," Mayor Jeff Cheney said. "It's going to be kind of a big part of the Frisco DNA going forward."

Rail District BOGO gift cards available June 1 in Frisco

Gift cards are back for the Rail District.

The details: Beginning June 1, gift cards will be available on the Yiftee digital gift card app, according to a May 27 city of Frisco news release. 

“The city of Frisco and its FCDC launched the ‘BOGO Gift Card’ last October,” Assistant City Manager Ben Brezina said in the release. “Since then, more than $950,000 in gift cards and bonus cards have been redeemed.”

Zooming in: The FCDC has invested more than $1.1 million to support the more than 130 Rail District businesses, according to the release.

City leaders, community members celebrate construction progress at Frisco's Firefly Park

Frisco community leaders and city officials gathered May 28 for a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the ongoing construction progress at Firefly Park.

The gist: Developed by Wilks Development, Firefly Park is located along the Dallas North Tollway off PGA Parkway. The development’s first phase is expected to be complete by late 2027. 

What happened: Kyle Wilks, Wilks Development president and CEO, said at the May 28 groundbreaking ceremony that Frisco city leaders have “created a moment in time” for Firefly Park to take off and become a part of the city’s community.

“We’re committed to Frisco and this wonderful community that we love,” Wilks said.

Spicy Aroma offers Indian flavors, breakfast buffet in Denton

Indian restaurant Spicy Aroma opened at the Denton Plaza shopping center in early March.

The restaurant offers a variety of Indian dishes, including chicken korma, tikka masala and biryani fried rice, according to the menu. Spicy Aroma also has an unlimited breakfast buffet on Saturdays and Sundays.

Yummy Crab plans new location in Frisco

Yummy Crab plans to open a location in Frisco by the end of the year, a company representative confirmed.

The chain offers crab legs, shrimp and crawfish by the pound alongside Southern seafood dishes like hush puppies and fried catfish.
