Mighty Oak BBQ, a locally owned and operated barbecue joint in New Braunfels, is moving to a new location at the end of summer.

The details: The restaurant is moving from its current location at 1102 N. Walnut Ave, although it will remain operational during the move. Mighty Oak BBQ is expected to open in its new space around Sept. 3 at 560 Porter St., owner David Stokem told Community Impact.

The new location will have indoor and outdoor seating for about 83 people, Stokem said.

Stokem told Community Impact that they have outgrown the current location and were in need of a spot with better parking for customers.

What’s on the menu: Mighty Oak BBQ has a different way of seasoning its meats compared to other Texas barbecue chains. Mighty Oak BBQ uses a “unique blend” of spices that sets its smoked meats apart from the common salt and pepper seasoning blend, according to the restaurant's website.

Methodist Hospital has acquired 18 Texas MedClinic urgent care facilities in the San Antonio area as part of HCA Healthcare’s Texas MedClinic acquisition, according to an Aug. 3 news release from the hospital system.

What we know: The clinics transitioned to CareNow Urgent Care, which is part of the Methodist Healthcare network, on Aug. 1. Two of the 18 clinics acquired are located in New Braunfels at:

• 958 I-35 N. frontage road
• 1922 Hwy. 46 W.

At least 85,000 students will use Texas' new education savings accounts during the 2026-27 school year, an Aug. 3 report shows. Enrollment may grow as the school year kicks off and more families opt in to the program.

The overview: The Texas Education Freedom Accounts program gives families state funds to send their children to private schools or homeschool them, with priority going to students with disabilities and children from low-income households.

About 24% of students participating in the TEFA program have a disability, according to state data, and 80% of participants are from low-income families.

Zooming in: The largest numbers of students participating in the program live in Texas’ largest school districts, data shows. The report lists that 3,327 participants live in Houston ISD’s boundaries, followed by 2,645 participants from Dallas ISD, 2,271 participants from Northside ISD and 2,024 participants from Fort Bend ISD.

Previous state data showed that about 43% of students selected for the program had previously attended a Texas public school, although the Aug. 3 report did not include that information.
