Taylored Fitness officials are planning to host a grand opening celebration in October, owner Taylor Livoti confirmed Sept. 1.

What's changed: Previously expected to open late this summer at 22399 FM 1314, Porter, Livoti said the gym is now expected to open this fall at a different location in Porter.

Meet the owner: As previously reported by Community Impact, Livoti is a former Division I volleyball athlete and educator who launched her personal training and nutrition coaching business from her two-car garage. Through referrals, the business has since outgrown the space, prompting Livoti to open a brick-and-mortar location.

Livoti previously said the gym will offer personal training and classes, and will only be open to clients. Livoti added her business focuses on helping clients build strength, confidence and sustainable habits.

In the 2025-26 school year, New Caney ISD was among the top public school districts across the Greater Houston area for some Texas Education Agency-tracked variables, such as enrollment growth and average teacher pay, according to data released March-June.

Meanwhile, the school district also ranked on the low side of school districts in the region for demographics such as counts of students in foster care, TEA data shows.

The overview: Community Impact analyzed data from the TEA to learn trends amongst 30 Greater Houston-area public school districts. Data covered enrollment, student transfers, special education, bilingual students and more.

By the numbers: In 2025-26, NCISD had:

• 19,665 students

• 1,329 teachers

• 1,700 staff

• 19 campuses

According to TEA data, NCISD also saw:

• 88.1% more students experiencing homelessness in 2025-26 compared to 2021-22

• 17.8% of NCISD's students enrolled in special education in 2025-26

• The second-highest average teacher pay in the Greater Houston area for 2025-26

Shipley Donuts is celebrating its 90th anniversary–nearly a century after its opening in 1936–with a 10-week-long promotion running until Oct. 18, according to a news release.

The special began Aug. 10 and is set to rotate through various value deals, in addition to debuting limited-time birthday-themed donuts.

The history: Shipley’s story began nine decades ago in the oven of its original bakery located at 1417 Crockett St., Houston. The bakery’s founder, Lawrence Shipley Sr., sold his handcrafted, pillowy donuts dipped in a warm glaze wholesale for just five cents a dozen, per the release.

Flash forward to the present: the Houston-based donut parlor still serves that same hexagon-cut treat fresh every morning, now from nearly 400 locations across 13 states.

What to expect: At participating locations, customers can get a taste of the all-new Birthday Bullseye, a festive spin on Shipley’s classic Strawberry Bullseye.

The donut is available individually and as part of the limited-time 1936 Shipley Favorites Box, a nostalgic dozen consisting of other beloved flavors.

On Sept. 3, Lone Star College System’s board of trustees voted to cancel the November trustee election after no new candidates filed to challenge the three incumbents.

In a nutshell: LSCS trustees for Districts 3, 4 and 9 were scheduled to be up for election Nov. 3, as previously reported by Community Impact. These trustee spots are held by:

Aug. 17 was the last day for candidates to file to run for election in November, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

Democrat Gina Hinojosa, an Austin state representative, and Libertarian Pat Dixon, a professional engineer, are challenging Republican incumbent Greg Abbott in the Nov. 3 election. Abbott is seeking a fourth term in the governor's mansion.

The big picture: As Texas’ top elected official, the governor signs and vetoes legislation, serves as commander-in-chief of the state military and appoints members of state agencies or advisory boards. Community Impact asked the three gubernatorial candidates for their perspectives on data centers, education, the cost of living and other topics.

The background: Abbott beat 10 Republican challengers in the March primary election, while Hinojosa beat eight other Democratic candidates to advance to the November election. Dixon was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

Looking ahead: Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
