Lone Star Family Health Center—a federally qualified health center in Montgomery County—saw 31,346 patients in 2024. This year, as patients visit the health center, they’ll be welcomed into the nonprofit’s expanded building that includes an extra 24,000 square feet of space, new medical rooms, a second pharmacy, and dedicated spaces for mental health and women’s health services.
The overview: LSFHC broke ground in 2023 on the expansion project—which also included renovations for around 19,000 square feet of existing space—and completed it this May, LSFHC CEO Karen Harwell said. Now the health center has six individual medical clinics under its one roof alongside other services such as dental, pharmacy, and X-ray and lab services. Zooming out: Harwell said LSFHC’s expansion cost around $10 million, and the nonprofit used a combination of existing cash reserves, grant funding and loans to fund it.
