Fort Worth considers incentives to bring electric plant, hundreds of jobs to Alliance area

The city of Fort Worth is competing with another state to land a Beacon Modular manufacturing plant, which builds electrical systems for data centers, hyperscale operations and other industrial settings.

The setup: During the Oct. 27 work session, City Council heard a presentation seeking the approval of proposed incentives to lure the proposed multimillion-dollar project to Fort Worth, which would bring in hundreds of jobs and $250 million in taxable sales.

The plant would be located at 4801 Henrietta Creek in Roanoke, which is Hillwood’s Alliance Gateway 71 warehouse.

Beacon Modular is a subsidiary of Lighthouse Electric Company, which offers customized electrical services, according to its website. Beacon Modular specifically designs and builds pre-assembled, skid-mounted electrical and power distribution systems for large-scale projects, such as data centers.

The business could bring in $250 million in taxable sales per year, as opposed to a typical warehouse development that offers no taxable sales, according to the presentation.

Lusso by Vittorio Di Buglione to serve authentic Italian meals in Roanoke

Italian restaurant Lusso by Vittorio Di Buglione will open its first location near Roanoke City Hall later this year.

The details: Lusso is the Italian word for luxury, but it’s not a luxury restaurant, said Vittorio Di Buglione, Lusso’s head chef and owner. The name comes from an Italian phrase meaning “we eat really good today” or “the luxury of life.”

The restaurant offers a traditional Italian fare using simple and authentic ingredients, many imported from Italy.

Di Buglione also said there will be tableside experiences, Italian hospitality and a pasta room in the middle of the restaurant where customers can watch pasta being made fresh daily.

“It’s more going to be an experience,” he said. “It’s not going to be the same restaurant for everybody.”

About the organization: WGU was founded in 1997 by a bipartisan group of 19 governors in Western states to provide a more affordable and flexible option for higher education. In 2011, then-Gov. Rick Perry signed an executive order making Texas an official WGU affiliate.

Since 2011, WGU in Texas has reached the following milestones:

  • 38,691 total graduates

  • 45,545 degrees earned

  • 24,087 students currently enrolled
