Klein ISD received a ‘B’ accountability rating for the 2025-26 school year from the Texas Education Agency based on its A-F accountability system, according to TEA data released Aug. 15.

The big picture: As previously reported by Community Impact, 85% of campuses in the state received a rating of ‘C’ or higher, which is considered “acceptable academic performance” by the TEA. High school ratings are based on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness scores combined with students' success after graduation in their college, career, and military readiness, whereas elementary and middle school ratings are largely based on STAAR scores.

Zooming in: 24% of Texas’s 1,202 rated school districts received a higher rating than the previous school year, per a news release.

KISD saw an increase of two points in their overall rating compared to the previous year scoring 88 out of 100 possible points, and the district saw year-over-year increases in two out of three domains, per TEA data.

Apple officials opened a new manufacturing facility in Houston as part of a $500 billion initiative from the company to strengthen production in the U.S. and the Houston area.

The big picture:  The new 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center will be the second largest facility that produces Apple technology in the U.S., according to an Aug. 13 news release. The new facility will also provide interactive classes and trainings for businesses and entrepreneurs on principles such as:

• Advanced manufacturing 
• Smart technology use in manufacturing
• Advanced automation techniques

The Texas Education Agency released public school accountability ratings for the 2025-26 school year on Aug. 14.

"We use [A-F ratings] as a way to evaluate our own performance as adults, and then build action plans so that the way that we run our schools next year can be even better than last year," Education Commissioner Mike Morath said during an Aug. 14 news conference.

The overview: Across the state, 85% of campuses received a C rating or higher, which is considered “acceptable" academic performance.

Schools are rated based on three criteria: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps.

Zooming in: At least one district, Austin ISD, is at risk of being taken over by the TEA after two of its middle school campuses received their fifth consecutive failing grades this year. State law requires the agency to shutter those campuses or take control of the district.

Any potential state-mandated closures or takeovers will not happen immediately, as districts with concerns about their ratings have through Sept. 11 to appeal scores to the TEA.
