Woodlands Fitness and Wellness plans grand opening in Spring this fall

Woodlands Fitness and Wellness Studio plans a grand opening in Spring this fall, and as of late July it was holding a soft opening, owner and head trainer Brandon Polk said. The gym is now accepting new clients.

Latest update: The gym offers one-on-one personal training, group training, fitness classes, recovery equipment and an infrared sauna. A grand opening is in the works for October or November.

Woodforest National Bank names new president and CEO, Julie Mayrant

Woodforest National Bank announced the appointment of Julie V. Mayrant as president and CEO as of July 15, via a news release.

Headquartered in The Woodlands, Woodforest has locations throughout the Greater Houston area and in the eastern and southern United States as well as several areas in the Midwest.

The backstory: Mayrant previously served as president and chief community banking officer, a role that oversees the bank's retail division. According to the news release, she has strengthened the bank's relationship-based approach to banking as well as worked to expand access to financial services.

Her start with the bank began with its first in-store branch in Conroe, according to the release.

Woodforest now has more than 740 branches in 17 states.

Walmart announces $250K workforce development grant for the Greater Houston area

Walmart on July 23 announced a multiyear workforce development grant in Houston aimed at helping workers in several communities prepare for higher-quality career opportunities over the next five years, according to a news release.

Walmart and Walmart Foundation announced an initial $250,000 grant to the Greater Houston Partnership to expand the workforce priorities of the Houston Economic Mobility Coalition, while United Way of Houston, Houston City College and San Jacinto College will also be partners in the effort, according to the release.

Another detail: The announcement was made at the Walmart location at 3040 College Park Drive, Conroe, which is also the location of the Walmart Academy in the area, officials said. The grant coincides with the 10th anniversary of Walmart Academy, a private training program that has seen over 4 million training completions since 2016, according to the news release.
