Republican Scott Bowen will face Democratic challenger Albert Witliff to represent District 129 in the Texas House of Representatives in the Nov. 3 election.

Who it's for: District 129 covers the majority of the northern part of the Bay Area in Harris County. The area includes much of Seabrook and Webster, and parts of Friendswood, Houston and League City, according to a map of the district.

Some context: Dennis Paul, who currently serves as the representative for District 129 is running for State Senate District 11 in the November election, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

What you need to know: Early voting for the Nov. 3 election runs from Oct. 19-30. Election Day is Nov. 3. The final day to register to vote is Oct. 5.

The overview: The number of days a home sat on the market lowered from August 2025 compared to August 2026. All four ZIP codes saw a decrease, with one decreasing by over 60%.

Diving in deeper: The largest share of homes sold in the Bay Area in August were between $200,000 and $399,999. Most others fell between $400,000 and $599,999.

Also of note: The total homes sold in the Bay Area varied in August compared to the same month last year. Two ZIP codes saw an increase, while two saw a decrease.

One last thing: Median sale prices were varied in the Bay Area from August 2025 to August 2026. While two ZIP codes saw an increase, one saw a decrease and one remained stagnant.

The Harris County Commissioners Court is slated to discuss the proposed budget and tax rates for the upcoming fiscal year during a special meeting Sept. 8.

At a glance: Commissioners are expected to make amendments to the proposed $3.096 billion budget, which was presented to the court Aug. 18. The court will also review the proposed tax rates and potentially set them as the county faces a $181 million shortfall.

The county’s Office of Management and Budget has proposed a tax rate of about $0.67 per $100 of property valuation, a 7.6% increase from last year, according to an agenda document. 

Also on the agenda: Commissioners will consider a 30% raise for County Treasurer Carla Wyatt. An all-citizen committee recommended increasing her pay to $181,411 annually during a meeting Aug. 20. The consideration comes as the court is planning to seek legislative approval to eliminate the treasurer's office permanently.
