Restaurants in The Woodlands area, including Shenandoah and Oak Ridge North, are participating in Houston Restaurant Weeks from Aug. 1-Sept. 7.

How it works: Produced by The Cleverly Stone Foundation, Houston Restaurant Weeks is a multiweek event that helps raise funds for the Houston Food Bank. This year will mark the event's 23rd year, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Swimwear store Everything But Water closed at Market Street in The Woodlands as of July 25, confirmed John Pearson, marketing director at Market Street.

The store sells swimwear, including bikinis and one-piece suits, as well as cover-ups and resort wear, according to the business website. It also sells accessories such as bags, hats and footwear.

Woodforest National Bank announced the appointment of Julie V. Mayrant as president and CEO as of July 15, via a news release.

Headquartered in The Woodlands, Woodforest has locations throughout the Greater Houston area and in the eastern and southern United States as well as several areas in the Midwest.

The backstory: Mayrant previously served as president and chief community banking officer, a role that oversees the bank's retail division. According to the news release, she has strengthened the bank's relationship-based approach to banking as well as worked to expand access to financial services.

Her start with the bank began with its first in-store branch in Conroe, according to the release.

Woodforest now has more than 740 branches in 17 states.

The Houston-Galveston Area Council will host a public meeting Aug. 5 for its Safety Action Plans—an effort to improve transportation safety and reduce serious roadway injuries and fatalities, according to a July 27 news release from H-GAC.

Why it matters: The Houston-Galveston region accounts for nearly 20% of traffic deaths in Texas, and every day an average of two people are killed and 10 people are seriously injured in traffic crashes across the region, according to H-GAC’s website.

A closer look: H-GAC is working with local governments, transportation agencies and community partners to identify critical issues and help lead future safety improvements, per the release.
