Q&A: Jill Boullion reflects on 10 years as Bayou Land Conservancy executive director

After 10 years as Bayou Land Conservancy’s executive director, Jill Boullion reflected on her time spent in leadership and the progress the conservancy has made over the years. According to its website, the conservancy works to preserve land along streams for better flood control, clean water and wildlife.

You’ve been the executive director at the Bayou Land Conservancy for the past 10 years. What motivated you to pursue your role?

“Before I came here, I was at the Greens Bayou Coalition. I had spent all my career in marketing and advertising, so it was kind of like getting to take all the experience and skills I had built up over all that time and put them into something I was passionate about."

What do you wish more people knew about the Bayou Land Conservancy?
A lot of people don't realize where we get our support and what makes us run. A big part of what we do is connecting people with nature so that we're a sustainable organization.

Always Patsy Cline to perform in The Woodlands

The Patsy Cline tribute "Always Patsy Cline" featuring Kelley Peters was driven by Peters’ household of musicians and her background in choir, orchestra and theatre, she said. It was also inspired by her education at Sam Houston State University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in musical theater.

The band is performing at the Dosey Doe-The Big Barn on March 22.

How did you first get into music, and what drew you to the genre you play?
The universal outreach and collective connection drew me to the music and impact of Patsy Cline. With inspiration from my father and uncle, I have always had a passion for country, western swing and rockabilly music, but I believe Patsy Cline extends way beyond that box and particular category of music.

Where do you usually find inspiration for your songs?
When choosing songs to perform, I am listening for the impact of the storytelling. Being a vocalist, I must say I am definitely locked in on the words of the song, but also the emotional ride of the musical composition.
