Brilliant Bee Preschool Academy to open Round Rock childcare facility this summer

An Austin-based preschool is set to expand this summer, with a second location opening in downtown Round Rock.

What you need to know: Brilliant Bee Preschool Academy will open a Round Rock academy this summer, serving children 18 months to 6 years old, the school announced via social media in February. The school will serve toddlers in its early preschool program, and offer both a preschool and kindergarten bridge program.

About the business: The preschool offers play-based curriculum, with structured routines and schedules, according to its website. Children build language, motor, literacy, math and other skills in the school's educational program. Brilliant Bee Preschool Academy is locally owned and founded by MyToia Graham, who has 12 years of experience in early childhood education.

Round Rock ISD declines to create dedicated time for prayer in school day

Round Rock ISD will not create a period of prayer in the school day, following a legislatively required vote on the matter taken in February.

What you need to know: Trustees voted not to create a daily period of prayer in its schools, at the recommendation of staff, at a Feb. 19 board meeting. The vote is required by statute in Senate Bill 11, passed in the 89th Texas Legislature, with a deadline of March 1.

The details: Cindy Hill, the district's general counsel, said RRISD already has policies in place allowing students to silently pray, meditate, organize prayer groups or clubs, as well as express their religious viewpoints in their assignments.

City of Pflugerville seeks business proposals for downtown space

City-owned property in downtown Pflugerville could become the site of a new business, as the city is seeking proposals to redevelop or repurpose a building along East Pecan Street.

Overview: The city of Pflugerville owns an 1,845-square-foot building in the downtown area, which formerly was home to a barbershop and speciality shop.

As the city continues efforts to revitalize the downtown area, experienced developers, restaurateurs, retailers and entertainment operators are invited to submit proposals to redevelop the building.

Expansion to East Williamson County Higher Education Center reaches milestone

Construction on an expansion to the East Williamson County Higher Education Center reached a milestone Feb. 17, when officials celebrated the topping out of the new 70,000-square-foot building.

The gist: The new building will serve as a manufacturing technology center for Texas State Technical College, located in Hutto. The center will house training programs for semiconductor, industrial systems and precision machining technology.

The project costs roughly $47 million. The building is expected to open in spring 2027.

From a commercial retail center to a gas station and more, here are five of the most expensive projects filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in the Austin metro this week.

1. Courtside in Austin: Quantum 71 will build a 26,331-square-foot restaurant and a 4,128-square-foot pickleball building.

2. Base Power in Austin: The Austin-based energy supplier will finish out a shell building for manufacturing and warehouse uses.

3. Winding Oak Commercial Development in Leander: Zoomers Investment Group will construct a commercial retail center, which will feature a 4,000-square-foot quick-serve restaurant, 19,543 square feet of retail space and a two-story 16,400-square-foot office and retail building.

4. AAA Storage and Business Park in Austin: The self-storage business will construct an 85,000-square-foot facility and business park.

5. Smart Stop in Georgetown: Central Texas-based Smart Stop will open a convenience store and fuel station that spans 6,000 square feet.
