Southlake adds parking restrictions on Bordeaux Drive, Ascot Drive

Parking restrictions will be coming on two streets near Carroll ISD schools.

Southlake City Council voted Jan. 20 establish no parking from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Bordeaux Drive, between South Carroll Avenue and Lorraine Drive and on Ascot Drive between North White Chapel Drive and Saratoga Drive.

The details: According to city documents, staff have received multiple resident concerns regarding school-related parking congestion along Ascot Drive and Bordeaux Drive. These concerns primarily relate to traffic circulation, visibility, and access challenges during peak school pickup periods.

Old Union Elementary School is near Bordeaux Drive, while Ascot Drive is near Carroll High School.

Zooming in: The no-parking signs will be similar to those placed on Dean Way, Winding Ridge Trail and Bluffview Terrace in 2015 near schools, according to a presentation given at the meeting.

Grapevine-Colleyville, Carroll ISD will reopen Jan. 29

District announcements state Carroll and Grapevine-Colleyville ISD will reopen their campuses and facilities on Thursday, Jan. 29, following a three-day closure due to winter weather.

The overview: Both districts will operate under their normal hours, per the announcements. The GCISD announcement says the district has enough instructional minutes banked and the missed class time will not need to be made up.

Both announcements state that district maintenance crews have been removing ice and snow from the properties, including sidewalks, parking lots, entrances and drop-off areas.

The districts previously closed their campuses from Monday Jan. 26-28 in response to unsafe road conditions caused by inclement weather.

Trinity Metro TEXRail breaks monthly ridership record in December

Trinity Metro’s TEXRail ridership set a new record in December.

The Fort Worth-based transit authority provided 129,115 rides last month, beating the previous mark set in December 2024 with 103,312 rides, according to a news release.

The details: TEXRail, which began operating in January 2019, runs between Fort Worth's T&P Station and Terminal B at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Christmas activities in Grapevine and holiday travels to the airport also contributed to record ridership, according to the news release.

Quote of note: “This season was incredible; trains arrived filled with families and couples using the convenience of TEXRail,” said Paul W. McCallum, executive director of the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We’re thrilled to see more people experiencing TEXRail and seeing just how easy it is to safely arrive at Historic Main Street without the drive, making the ride part of the fun.”

What to know ahead of Texas’ Feb. 2 voter registration deadline

The March 3 primary election is coming up, and so is the deadline to register to vote. Eligible Texans must register by Feb. 2 to cast votes in dozens of races, including 18 statewide officials, 38 members of Congress, 166 state legislators and various local seats, such as county judges and commissioners.

How to register: Texans must submit a paper voter registration application by Feb. 2. Applications can be mailed to their county elections office or delivered in-person.

To avoid delivery delays under new federal postmark rules, prospective voters may requests that mailed applications be hand-stamped at a local post office.

The big picture: Texas holds primaries for partisan elected positions at the federal, state, regional and local levels. Republican and Democratic primary voters will have a say in which candidates will represent their chosen political party on the November ballot, shaping who is ultimately elected to each seat.

In recent years, no more than one-fourth of registered Texas voters have cast ballots in primary elections, state data shows.
