Construction on a new 7 Brew Coffee in Humble is projected to begin in October, according to an Aug. 12 TDLR filing.

The details: The roughly $1.5 million project will consist of the construction of a roughly 510-square-foot facility, per the filing.

Established in 2017, 7 Brew serves specialty beverages that customers can customize, including cold brews, Americanos, mochas and lattes, according to the company's website. The seven original beverages on the menu that are considered "fan favorites" feature flavors such as cookie butter, banana bread and cinnamon roll.

The menu also includes drinks such as smoothies, shakes, sodas and lemonades, per the website.

The timeline: While the filing did not include a projected opening date, construction is expected to wrap up in January.

Two candidates are vying for Texas House District 127 in the upcoming Nov. 3 general election.

Meet the candidates: Republican incumbent Charles Cunningham will face Democratic challenger Michelle Williams in the race for Texas House District 127, which covers portions of northeast Harris County, including Kingwood.

Cunningham was first elected to the Texas House in 2022. Williams is a classroom teacher and union leader.

Something to note: Candidates were asked to keep responses under 50 words, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents. Answers may have been edited or cut to adhere to those guidelines, or for style and clarity.

The University of Houston has cut 133 classes from its list of core curriculum after conducting a review mandated by Senate Bill 37, which Texas lawmakers passed in June 2025 and went into effect in September 2025.

Many of the removed courses will still be offered for students, university leaders said Aug. 20. However, some professors and students expressed concern about the future of courses cut from the core list.

How we got here: On Aug. 20, UH’s board of regents unanimously approved a list of 147 courses for the university’s core curriculum for the 2026-27 school year. In the 2025-26 school year, UH offered 280 courses under its core curriculum.

The context: Under SB 37, governing boards of higher education institutions must review their core curriculum lists every five years, with the first review due by Jan. 1, 2027, according to the bill posted on the Texas Legislature’s website.

On Sept. 3, Lone Star College System’s board of trustees voted to cancel the November trustee election after no new candidates filed to challenge the three incumbents.

In a nutshell: LSCS trustees for Districts 3, 4 and 9 were scheduled to be up for election Nov. 3, as previously reported by Community Impact. These trustee spots are held by:

• Art Murillo for District 4
• Jim Cain for District 9

Aug. 17 was the last day for candidates to file to run for election in November, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

For the first time in over a decade, there is no incumbent in the Texas attorney general's race as Republican Ken Paxton runs for U.S. Senate.

Democrat Nathan Johnson, a state senator from Dallas; Republican Mayes Middleton, a state senator from Galveston; and Libertarian Tom Oxford, an attorney from Nederland, are running to replace him this November. Community Impact asked the candidates for their perspectives on Texas' open records laws, state litigation and other topics.

How we got here: Johnson and Middleton each won their primary runoff elections in May, Community Impact reported, while Oxford was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

Looking ahead: Early voting in eight statewide races and dozens of local elections runs from Oct. 19-30. Election Day is Nov. 3.
