Braunfelser now serving German-inspired brews in New Braunfels

Braunfelser Beer & Wine Garden is officially open and ready to serve a wide selection of drinks in New Braunfels.

Seth Weatherly, who also owns Five Stones Artisan Brewery, opened the beer and wine garden at 499 S. Castell Ave. on Oct. 13. The location was previously home to the Faust Brewing Company, which closed in 2025 after being open for 16 years.

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere: In 2019, Weatherly and his team brewed a German-inspired series of beers called Braunfelser as an ode to New Braunfels, which inspired the name, said Taylor Kroeger, a representative from Braunfelser Beer & Wine Garden.

"In essence, 'Braunfelser' is a love letter to our community," Kroeger said.

The beer and wine garden has a selection of local craft brews and a tasting room.

"We hope this becomes the downtown community’s 'backyard,' if you will," Kroeger said. "A place to linger, slow down and savor life over a good pint with good company."

Family-owned ice cream shop relocating within Freiheit Village

A locally owned ice cream shop will be relocating in New Braunfels upon the expiration of its lease.

What you need to know: Tipsy Cow Ice Cream will be moving from 2154 Gabriels Place, Ste. 104, to 2124 Gabriels Place, Ste. 106—which previously housed the fast-casual chicken salad restaurant Roost, that closed in May. When the space became available, Owner Mike Chase said it was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

The new Tipsy Cow Ice Cream location will have a drive-thru and more space for seating. Chase said they also plan to expand the menu at some point. The location at 2154 Gabriels Place, Ste. 104 will remain open as long as possible, Chase said and they hope to debut in their new space in December.

What they offer: Tipsy Cow Ice Cream specializes in homemade, alcohol-infused ice cream. The ice cream shop also has kid-friendly flavors, milkshakes, floats and dairy-free options.

'A bipartisan government': Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa announces next steps for political transition

At her first public event since winning the Nov. 3 election, Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa announced her initial plans for the transition between gubernatorial administrations, emphasizing her plans to work across the aisle in "building a government that is working for the people of Texas."

The overview: Hinojosa also announced the team leading her transition to the governor's office:

  • Joe Madden, former chief of staff for Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo

  • Former GOP state Rep. Ernest Bailes

  • Ryan Pollock, executive director of the Texas State Building and Construction Trades Council

  • Tamala Barksdale, a former Austin ISD trustee

Quote of note: "This is not about being a Democratic administration," she said. "I'm not going to be the governor for just Democrats—I'm going to be the governor for all the people of Texas."

One more thing: Hinojosa said Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, whom she unseated in the Nov. 3 election, had been "gracious" and expressed that his office would "fully cooperate with this transition and be helpful as they can."
