Texas Woman’s University to host grand opening of $107M health sciences center

Texas Woman’s University will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Feb. 12 to celebrate the opening of its new $107 million Health Sciences Center in Denton.

The details: The new 136,000-square-foot facility is designed to bring nursing, nutrition, health sciences and clinical training together to model a modern health care system, according to a university news release. The facility received $100 million in state funding, which was approved by the Texas Legislature in 2022.

Highlights from the new facility include advanced simulation labs, state-of-the-art classrooms, clinical training areas, therapy training areas, outdoor learning and therapy spaces and collaborative work spaces.

What they're saying: "The Health Sciences Center reflects a shared belief that education—when paired with innovation and compassion—can transform the health and wellbeing of our communities," TWU Chancellor Carine Feyten said. "It is a powerful example of how collaboration and vision can create lasting impact for our students and for Texas."

Toasty Bros. Beer to celebrate 1-year anniversary with 3 days of live music

Toasty Bros., a local Denton brewery, will host a three-day celebration to commemorate its one-year anniversary, the business announced on its social media pages.

What’s happening: Starting Feb. 6, the brewery will host numerous live music acts through Feb. 8. There will also be opportunities for guests to win prizes, according to a social media post.

Toasty Bros. specializes in small-batch beer and has unique brews on site, including cream ales, pale ales, IPAs, blondes, porters and stouts, according to its website.

City Pickle USA close to opening in North City: A planned grand opening celebration on Jan. 31 for City Pickle USA was postponed due to the weather from Winter Storm Fern, according to the company’s social media page. While a new date for the grand opening has not been named, officials with the pickleball facility confirmed its member day is set for Feb. 1.

Multi-family development to bring more than 800 apartments, townhomes: HPI Real Estate Services and Investment is behind a development that will feature more than 800 residences near Blue Mound Road and will add a turn lane on Bonds Ranch Road, according to previous reporting.

Ground was broken in October, and dirt and utility work have followed, according to Tim Shaughnessy, president of HPI Multifamily.

Locally owned GoYaki serves Korean cuisine in Prosper

Prosper resident Brian Kim said when he opened GoYaki in his hometown in 2024, he wanted to share his Korean culture by creating a menu and presentation style that was a bit different from other Korean restaurants.

Kim said he, his wife Jane Kim and his mother-in-law created the GoYaki menu using family recipes. Popular menu items are their beef bulgogi plate and LA galbi plate. Bulgogi is a marinated Korean style beef brisket and LA galbi are Korean BBQ beef short ribs.

Real estate, networking and prizes: Community Impact's InCIder Hour heading to DFW on Feb. 17

The overview: As Community Impact enters its third decade, it’s returning to its roots of growth and deeper reader connections. The “Patron” program, which began in 2020 by reader demand, has relaunched as InCIder.

“This relaunch represents our renewed commitment to readers who support our local news,” CEO John Garrett said. “Beyond funding great journalism, we also want to reward our InCIders and build deeper connections with them, creating a true sense of community around the work we do.”

Event details: As part of the new program, Community Impact is hosting InCIder Hours across the state, events designed to celebrate and engage the company’s top supporters.

DFW’s first InCIder Hour will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. Feb. 17 at Community Impact’s DFW headquarters, 3803 Parkwood Blvd., Ste. 500, Frisco.

Guests will have the opportunity to network with fellow InCIders, meet Community Impact staff and attend a moderated real estate-focused panel.
