The estimated opening date for Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux in Valley Ranch Town Center has been pushed from this spring to this fall, said a spokesperson with Valley Ranch developer The Signorelli Co. via email June 25.

On the menu: Walk-On's offers a menu of Cajun and Creole dishes such as boom boom shrimp tacos, gumbo and fried alligator, as previously reported by Community Impact. Sports bar staples—including burgers and wings—are also available.

The project: Construction on the Walk-On's location kicked off in September, as previously reported. The restaurant will span 7,879 square feet and feature a full bar.

Across the two ZIP codes that. make up Community Impact's New Caney-Porter coverage area, data for June 2026 compared with data for June 2025 shows: 

• Approximately 32 fewer homes were sold.
• The median price of homes sold increased in both New Caney/Porter. 
• On average, homes sold faster in both ZIP codes. 
• Additionally, nearly 73% of homes sold in June 2026 were in the $200,000-$399,999 price range. 

Montgomery County is moving forward with architectural work for a proposed new justice center as officials weigh whether to place a funding measure before voters in November.

Commissioners unanimously approved selecting Dallas-based Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects, also known as BSW Architects, for the project during a July 9 meeting. A contract outlining the scope, cost and payment schedule will come back to the court for approval.

What you need to know: The selection allows the county to begin refining plans and developing a more reliable cost estimate for the proposed courthouse. BSW architect Charlie Goodman said the firm would build from an earlier facility study rather than start from scratch, but the existing plans would need to be reviewed and updated.

Commissioners have not approved a bond election or finalized how the justice center would be funded. However, officials discussed the possibility of taking a bond proposal to voters in November.

Gov. Greg Abbott named Robert S. Howden, one of his senior advisers and his office's legislative director, as Texas' 116th secretary of state effective July 18. Howden will succeed Secretary of State Jane Nelson, who resigned effective July 17 more than three years after she took office.

As the state's chief elections officer, Howden will be responsible for overseeing the application of Texas election laws and assisting local election officials. The secretary of state's office also manages business records, government rules and regulations, and other official duties.

Following Abbott's appointment, Howden must be confirmed for the position by at least two-thirds of the Texas Senate. The state Legislature's next regular session will begin in January.
