The Crow Museum of Asian Art debuted a new exhibit with a tie to the State Fair of Texas at its Richardson location at the University of Texas at Dallas.

The overview: "New Deal Texas and the West" displays federally funded art created under New Deal programs, including materials from the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition and the construction of key buildings at Fair Park, the site of the State Fair. The exhibit, which will be open until July 18, features about 75 artifacts from the Dallas Museum of Art’s collection and marks the third exhibition partnership between UT Dallas and the museum.

Quote of note: “Many of these [pieces] have never been shown before,” said Tamara Wootton Forsyth, the Marcus-Rose Family deputy director of the Dallas Museum of Art. “Together, these works explore one of the most significant eras of federal support for the arts in American history.”

Rembrandt Florist is now open near the Richardson and Dallas border, Flower Shop Manager Talina Reed said.

What you need to know: The flower shop offers floral arrangements for events including funerals, weddings and anniversaries. Rembrandt also takes walk-ins and flower delivery orders.

Rembrandt serves as the in-house florist for Restland Funeral Homes, and has operated out of the back of the funeral home since 2019 when its storefront was damaged by a tornado, Reed said.

A new program from the Transportation Security Administration, new speed limits on International Parkway, new parking and access fees, hotel topping out and flight changes are among the updates from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Gateside by TSA PreCheck: Gateside is a new program launched that allows non-flyers with an eligible TSA PreCheck membership to enter the secure area to meet or see off friends and family at the gate, meet for a layover, or shop or eat at restaurants within the airport. The TSA website says the program is free and to apply one to three days before a planned visit. Children can also participate but must be included on their parent/guardian's application.

Two environmental agencies have approved a new plan to improve water quality throughout the Rowlett Creek watershed.

The new plan was approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Aug. 24, according to Texas A&M AgriLife.

In a nutshell: Local partners are planning the following efforts to reduce the presence of E. coli bacteria in the watershed:

• Reduce pollutants from stormwater

• Promote responsible lawn care and pet waste practices

• Address illegal dumping and litter

• Expand education programs

• Support flood management strategies

• Continue water quality monitoring

Dig deeper: The study took samples from five sites along the creek, according to documents from Texas A&M AgriLife. Loads of E. coli were estimated to come from dogs, feral cats, livestock, feral hogs, ducks and wastewater treatment facilities.
