Celina officials outline next steps for local business support program

Celina officials are moving forward with a new local business support program that aims to improve workforce development, help startups and boost visibility for local businesses. City officials launched the program and appointed its committee members earlier this year in May.

What you need to know: At their Nov. 11 meeting, Celina City Council members received an update on the program committee’s work over the summer, which included setting specific parameters and goals. Additionally, the program’s committee is made up of members of the city’s economic development corporation, City Council, chamber of commerce, downtown commission and regional and workforce partners.

Committee participants highlighted needs such as strengthening workforce pipelines, establishing startup mentoring and improving city resource accessibility, according to city documents.

Quote of note: "Supporting these businesses isn’t just about economics—it’s about supporting the fabric of our community,” Celina Economic Development Corp. Director Anthony Satarino said.

Google commits $40B to 3 data new centers, infrastructure in Texas through 2027

Google is targeting Texas for future investments in data and artificial infrastructure, with $40 billion expected to be spent on adding three new data centers.

Federal, state and local leaders announced the new centers to be constructed in Armstrong and Haskell counties at a Nov. 14 event at the first Texas Google Data Center in Midlothian, near the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The gist: One new data center will be constructed in Armstrong County near Amarillo, and two new data centers will be constructed in Haskell County near Abilene. One center in Haskell County will also use a new solar and battery energy storage plant.

“They say that everything is bigger in Texas—and that certainly applies to the golden opportunity with AI,” Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said.

Also of note: The driverless car company Waymo is expanding to North Texas in 2026, Pichai said.
