Within the past two months, the city of New Braunfels has appointed its second interim legal counsel.

The latest: New Braunfels City Council unanimously appointed Nathan Brown as interim city attorney following a closed session during a special City Council meeting July 20. The decision comes after the city appointed Brown to serve as the city’s acting city attorney July 14, removing Davidson Troilo Ream & Garza as the interim firm serving as city attorney.

Following a review of five submitted proposals, City Council directed staff to enter into a contract with Affion Public to help recruit the city's next permanent city attorney. Affion Public—a firm specializing in executive recruitment for public sector organizations—will engage with stakeholders, develop a candidate profile, screen and evaluate candidates and present qualified candidates for the council's consideration, according to an email from the city.

Camp Bow Wow, a dog day care, overnight boarding and dog grooming service, is planning to open a New Braunfels location next summer.

What we know: The new business will be located across from Memorial Early College High School at 1450 N. Business I-35. The New Braunfels franchise is locally owned by Frank and Tamara Wetegrove.

Frank Wetegrove, a retired U.S. Army colonel, has operated Camp Bow Wow franchises through the San Antonio and Austin areas for about 19 years, according to an email from a Camp Bow Wow spokesperson.

More details: New dogs camping at Camp Bow Wow are required to go through an interview day so staff can see if the dog is a good fit for group play before enrolling. Dog moms and dads can also check in on their pet during the day through Camp Bow Wow’s live web cameras. Camp Bow Wow has locations in Stone Oak, Live Oak, Spicewood, San Antonio and Austin.

On June 2, the Kyle City Council approved a request for an independent third-party forensic audit to evaluate potential financial misconduct that has occurred in recent years, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

The council determined the scope of the forensic audit during a July 22 meeting, including which specific allegations of misconduct will be evaluated and the sequence in which the allegations are reviewed.

The gist: In a forensic audit, one or more third-party firms will examine financial records in an effort to find evidence of fraud, embezzlement, theft, corruption or other serious financial misconduct, said Interim City Manager Perwez Moheet.

The overview: The city’s forensic audit will be completed with a phased approach to better manage the solicitation and contract process with independent auditors, Moheet said. The council voted on seven unique issues, determining whether each would be reviewed.

Five of the seven allegations will be the subjects of forensic audits. The council tabled two of the proposed issues. Each allegation will be audited individually.

A Mansfield-based company developing advanced manufacturing facilities for the aerospace and defense industry will relocate its headquarters to the Tower Business Park in Buda.

The overview: The Buda Economic Development Corporation, or Buda EDC, announced the relocation of Even Platforms to the city. The company recently signed a 9,000-square-foot lease at Tower Business Park, according to a news release.

The company will bring dozens of high-skill, high-wage jobs to the city over the next five years, according to the release.

According to the release, Even Platforms’ arrival strengthens Buda's identity as a destination for innovative industry. The company intends to open its facility to local high school students for tours and internships and to encourage employees to volunteer with local organizations.

Another thing: The Buda EDC and City Council approved a $50,000 incentive for Even Platforms. The incentive will offset the cost of electrical service upgrades necessary to provide adequate power for equipment operation, according to the release.
