McBrides to bring Play Street Museum to Southlake

Spending time with their grandchildren turned into a new career venture for Melanie and Steve McBride. A trip to the Plano-Frisco area last year led to a stop inside Play Street Museum. It sparked an idea for the couple, a former teacher and soccer coach.

“I enjoyed it as a grandpa,” Steve McBride said.

Now, they will bring a franchise to the Southlake Marketplace shopping center.

The details: The business offers an indoor play area that has self-directed play, stimulates children’s imaginations, encourages them to problem solve and allows them to refine their social skills, according to the company website.

What else? The facility is for children ages 1-8 years old. The space on weekends can be rented for special events, holiday events and birthday parties, Melanie McBride said. Each of the locations has a different theme and Southlake is only one of three with the farm theme, along with locations in McKinney and Cypress.

Tarrant Appraisal District board to investigate mistake in 2024 voting allocation

A typo is at the forefront of an issue at the Tarrant Appraisal District.

A special meeting was called Nov. 3 by Chair Rick Barnes, who is also Tarrant County’s tax assessor-collector, regarding vote misallocation in the 2024 entity election.

A four-hour meeting ended with the board voting to hire an independent third-party to investigate any irregularities surrounding the 2024 and 2025 elections.

A motion was made to terminate Chief Appraiser Joe Don Bobbitt, but without a second, that motion died.

What happened? Eric Crile, a candidate last year who failed to earn a board spot, discovered an error in June. A firefighter for the city of Dallas, Crile chose to run again and noticed the taxable value for the Tarrant County Hospital District, or JPS Health, was pasted in the cell for Tarrant County College.

Tarrant County College had 307 during the 2023 election but had 505 in the 2024 election, according to the TAD website.

“I didn’t check that as closely as I should have,” Bobbitt said.
