Cibolo Community Center nearly ready for city senior program

The city of Cibolo’s newest hub for senior programming is nearly complete.

At the Aug. 26 meeting of Cibolo City Council, City Manager Wayne Reed said the Cibolo Community Center at 203 S. Main St. is ahead of its scheduled renovations. Completion is now estimated for Sept. 15.

What’s happening: The city purchased the space formerly known as the Noble Group Event Center in May 2024, spending approximately $2.01 million for the acquisition according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

In March, city staff presented a vision for the 5,432-square-foot space to be used for the Cibolo Senior Program and the city’s Human Resources department. The center will also provide additional office and storage space for the city.

Next steps: Once renovations are complete, staff will move in equipment and appliances for the senior program before official programming begins, Reed said.

Texas General Land Office acquires Menger Hotel, Crockett Hotel

On Aug. 26, the Texas General Land Office, in partnership with Rockbridge and the Alamo Trust Inc., announced that it acquired the Menger Hotel and The Crockett Hotel.

The overview: According to a news release, the purchase will strengthen the visitor experience at The Alamo and is in line with the Alamo Plan. The plan includes building the Alamo District, which includes a new museum, new exhibits and buildings that will reshape visitors’ perception of The Alamo.

The two properties have not been available for purchase in decades and sit adjacent to the Alamo grounds. Both hotels stand on land that once formed part of the agricultural fields of Mission San Antonio de Valero, the 18th-century Spanish mission that would later become known as The Alamo, according to a news release.

Since 1859, the Menger Hotel has been The Alamo's next-door neighbor. The hotel has welcomed a long line of U.S. presidents, national leaders and cultural icons. The hotel bar is also the site where future president Theodore Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders.

Klaw Time opens new arcade in North San Antonio

A new and unique arcade has recently opened its doors in the North San Antonio area.

What’s new: Klaw Time, a claw machine arcade, opened on July 15 at 5525 Blanco Road, Ste. 121, Owner Jarrett Fugh told Community Impact.

The arcade contains 18 claw machines, mostly filled with plushie prizes, while a few have larger rewards like gaming consoles.

Fugh said that there are different “levels” of prizes that can be won, where players can trade in a certain number of plushies to get bigger rewards like Labubu dolls.

“It’s a really fun place for families to come in and win prizes,” he said.

The framework: It’s their second location in San Antonio, the other being situated at 1324 SW Military Drive on the south side of the city.
