Klein ISD to discuss budget, virtual academy May 11

Following their special-called budget workshop in April, the Klein ISD board of trustees is holding a regular meeting May 11 to receive updates on the Texas Promise Academy and additional budget updates.

Two-minute impact: Texas Promise Academy, KISD’s “tuition-free” online schooling program for middle and high school students across Texas, will begin in fall 2026, as previously reported by Community Impact.

KISD’s fiscal year 2025-26 budget is projected to have a $20 million surplus as of the April 20 special-called budget workshop, as previously reported by Community Impact.

What else? To further discuss the FY 2026-27 budget, a special-called meeting for June 8 at 6 p.m. at the Frank A. Lemmon Administration Building will be proposed to the board for scheduling.

Vonlane motor coach route between Houston metro and Austin opens in The Woodlands

The luxury motor coach service Vonlane announced its departure point from the Houston metro in The Woodlands to Austin began service May 4. The route is the 12th for the company.

Vonlane launched a route between The Woodlands and Dallas last year.

What to expect: Vonlane now offers service between The Woodlands and Austin seven days a week at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center, 1601 Lake Robbins Drive, The Woodlands, and DoubleTree by Hilton Austin-University Area, 1617 N. I-35, Austin.

New restaurant near the Galleria now serving certified Wagyu from three different countries

Wagyu House Houston opened inside The Galleria on May 1. The restaurant serves all-you-can-eat Wagyu dishes from Japan, Australia and the United States.

Meat options include American and Australian full-blood Wagyu, as well as Japanese A5 Wagyu. Each type of Wagyu includes a certificate of authenticity to certify that the beef is 100% genuine and graded according to the standard by the Japan Meat Grading Association, which considers marbling, meat brightness, texture and quality.

Luna Rosa Cocina & Cantina opens in Texas City

Luna Rosa Cocina & Cantina opened in March at 3336 Crystal View Blvd., Texas City. The restaurant offers quesadillas, salads, enchiladas, tortas, tacos, flautas and tostadas, among other items.

Drinks include margaritas, palomas, cucumber water and espresso martinis.
