See who is running in the District 6 City Council runoff race in New Braunfels

The New Braunfels City Council District 6 race is heading to a runoff.

Incumbent April Ryan and District 6 candidate Nikki Shaw will be going to a runoff election June 13. The race is being held in both Comal and Guadalupe counties.

What you need to know: Early voting in Comal and Guadalupe counties will take place on the following dates, at the following times, according to the city’s website.

  • June 1-5: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • June 6: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

  • June 8 and 9: 7 a.m.-7 p.m.


Comal County residents can vote early at the Comal County Elections Office or at the Comal County Church Hill Annex, according to the city’s website. Guadalupe County residents can vote early at the Guadalupe County Elections Office or at Redemptive Grace Ministries, according to the city’s website.

What’s next: Election day will be June 13 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Historic hotel reopens in New Braunfels following two and a half years of renovations

After two and a half years of renovations, a historic hotel in downtown New Braunfels has reopened its doors.

The Faust Hotel, located at 240 S. Seguin Ave., reopened its doors May 19 after closing in November 2023. Officials celebrated the hotel's grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony May 15.

In case you missed it: The Faust Hotel has 45 rooms featuring king beds with walk-in showers, 55-inch televisions, complimentary Wi-Fi, Nespresso coffee makers and retro Frigidaire mini fridges. Of the 45 guest rooms, six are corner suites that can be upgraded to three bedrooms and include a separate living room. The hotel also boasts nine junior suites, according to a news release.

Faust owner Andy Duettra said the renovation project has been a labor of love for their friends and family.

“It holds a great deal of importance to many in New Braunfels. We are thrilled to be able to carry on the legacy of the Faust Hotel,” Duettra said in a news release.

At the polls: Unofficial early voting data was released in the evening of May 26, representing ballots cast May 18-22 during early voting and on election day.

For the first time in more than a decade, there is no incumbent in the Texas attorney general's race as Ken Paxton runs for the U.S. Senate. Voters across Texas made their picks for attorney general in the May 26 runoff election, with the winning candidate from each political party moving on to the November election.

The context: The Republican and Democratic attorney general races are among several statewide contests that advanced to May runoffs after no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the March 3 primary election.

The attorney general serves as Texas' top lawyer and law enforcement officer.

About the candidates: On the right, state Sen. Mayes Middleton of Galveston and U.S. Rep. Chip Roy of Austin are each seeking the Republican nomination for the seat.

On the left, state Sen. Nathan Johnson of Dallas and former Galveston Mayor Joe Jaworski are vying for the Democratic nomination.

In the May 26 runoff election, Republican voters across Texas cast their votes in a contentious U.S. Senate race between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The context: The Republican race for U.S. Senate is one of several statewide contests that advanced to May runoffs after no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the March 3 primary election.

About the candidates: Cornyn, an incumbent senator with nearly 24 years in office, is seeking to hold his seat for another six years while being challenged by Paxton, the once-impeached state attorney general who was recently endorsed by President Donald Trump.
