Roanoke City Council held a public hearing for the proposed tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year and approved a change to the speed limit on SH 114 at the Aug. 25 meeting.

Tax rate: Director of Finance Kyle Lester said the proposed tax rate for fiscal year 2026-27 is $0.326182 per $100 valuation, which is unchanged from the current fiscal year. He said that the no-new-revenue tax rate would be split into $0.133737 for debt payments and $0.192445 for the general operating fund.

The median taxable value of homestead property is $426,162, up from $425,900 last year, a 0.062% increase. Under the same proposed tax rate, the tax on the average homestead would remain $1,390, according to city documents.

Speed limit: Roanoke officials voted to set the speed limit on SH 114 within the city limits to 70 mph, up from 60 mph on that stretch or road. The speed limit along US 377 from Bobcat Boulevard to the northern city limits remains at 60 mph.

Fort Worth ENT & Sinus, which handles ear, nose, throat and sinus issues, will be a tenant in a new medical office building under construction in north Fort Worth.

The details: This will be the second office for the practice, whose flagship clinic is located at 5751 Edwards Ranch Road in west Fort Worth. According to its website, Fort Worth ENT & Sinus also treats sleep apnea and thyroid issues, provides hearing tests and treats pediatric ear, nose and throat problems.

Democrat Gina Hinojosa, an Austin state representative, and Libertarian Pat Dixon, a professional engineer, are challenging Republican incumbent Greg Abbott in the Nov. 3 election. Abbott is seeking a fourth term in the governor's mansion.
