See what city facilities will close for the Fourth of July

Independence Day will affect several Denton facilities and services, according to an announcement on the city’s website.

The details: All libraries will close Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, and reopen with normal hours Sunday, July 5, according to the announcement.

The Linda McNatt Animal Shelter will also close July 3-4, and reopen with regular hours Monday, July 6.

The Denton Municipal Court and Quakertown Civic Center will close Friday, July 3, and resume regular hours Monday, July 6.

Utilities customer service will close July 3 and resume regular hours Monday, July 6.

What else? The following recreation centers and facilities will remain open July 3 and close July 4:

  • Denia Recreation Center
  • North Lakes Recreation Center
  • Denton Senior Center
  • American Legion Hall Senior Center

Bath & Bodyworks now open in Denton Crossing

A new Bath & Bodyworks opened its doors in Denton in mid-June, a company representative said.

In a nutshell: The personal care store sells fragrances, lotions, soaps, candles and other body care products. Denton’s newest location is in the Denton Crossing shopping center and is between Nordstrom Rack and J.Crew.

The location at Denton Crossing is the third Bath & Bodyworks in Denton. The other two are located in Golden Triangle Mall and off University Drive.

New flights, federal investments: 4 updates from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport

New destinations from American Airlines and Contour Airlines have started at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration is investing in upgrades at the airport, while the U.S. Customs and Border Protection is running a trial at DFW Airport.

American Airlines adds routes: Fort Worth-based American Airlines launched international and domestic routes in May and June.

On June 4, American Airlines launched services at Lincoln Airport in Lincoln, Nebraska. American Airlines sent its inaugural flight from Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport in Roanoke, Virginia, to DFW Airport on June 5.

Contour Airlines: A small airport in northeast Missouri will launch flights to and from DFW Airport on Aug. 1.

Contour Airlines, based in Smyrna, Tennessee, will offer flights six days a week—except Saturday—from Kirksville Regional Airport to DFW Airport.

Federal Aviation Administration investments: The U.S. Department of Transportation will provide $78 million in grants for two projects at DFW Airport.
