I-45 direct connector
Project: A direct connector is being constructed to connect northbound I-45 with eastbound Hwy. 242 between Shenandoah Park Drive to Hwy. 242.
Update: This project is 8% completed, according to a Sept. 11 media update from the Texas Department of Transportation.

  • Cost: $42.63 million
  • Funding sources: federal, state funds

FM 1097 widening
Project: FM 1097 is being widened from two to four lanes with a continuous left-turn lane between west of Blueberry Hills Road to Lake Conroe Hills Drive.
Update: This project is 79% completed, according to a Sept. 11 media update.
  • Timeline: second quarter 2022-second quarter 2026
  • Cost: $20.21 million
  • Funding sources: federal, state funds

Home sales see decrease year over year in September in the Conroe, Montgomery area

September home sales saw a decrease year over year in the Conroe and Montgomery area, according to market data provided by local real estate firm The Sawyer Realty Group.

What you need to know: Home sales decreased in five of the eight ZIP codes in the Conroe and Montgomery area, with total home sales decreasing 12.3% year over year in September. 

What else: The average time homes spent on the market in the Conroe and Montgomery area rose year over year in September in four of the eight area ZIP codes. The largest percentage increase was in 77356 at 67.92%—homes went from spending an average of 53 days on the market last September to 89 days on the market this September.

Check out several new restaurants that have recently opened across the Houston metro, as recently reported by Community Impact.

Aki Sushi and Asian Fusion
At the restaurant, customers can choose from a variety of sushi, including popular items such as spicy tuna rolls, shaggy dog rolls and California rolls. Additionally, Aki Sushi and Asian Fusion offers bento boxes, rice and noodle dishes, hibachi, nigiri and sashimi.

A new family-owned restaurant is now open in Katy. The American-inspired Meltz Grill offers various menu options including cheesesteaks, burgers, gyros, salads and wings, according to its website.

Check out these new restaurants and bars opening across the Houston area.


Mountain Mike's Pizza local franchise owners announced the opening of a second Cypress location in a Oct. 8 news release. The new store marks the third location in the Houston area.


Locally franchised and owned by Nadeem Rajani, Karim Rajani and Danish Faraz, the shop provides a variety of pizza offerings with dough made in-house according to the owners. The new location also has a 700-square-foot patio, a kid's arcade section and all-you-can-eat pizza buffet.

Queen Bee’s Tea Room brings classic British refinement and Southern hospitality to the Houston Heights through aesthetic decor and a curated selection of teas and pastries, according to the establishment’s social media.


The woman-owned, Texas-based business offers an afternoon tea experience with vintage teacups and inventive tea-infused creations.


The business will also offer dishes to pair with the teas. Co-owner Kristy Jhaver said the menu blends the finest ingredients to elevate customers' tea experiences, featuring items such as soups, salads and sandwiches.
