Sweetwater Boulevard Phase 2: The project’s second phase will reconstruct select concrete pavement panels between Hwy. 59 and Palm Royale Boulevard.

Mast arm addition: Missouri City will replace the light at FM 2234 and Buffalo Run/Scanlin Road from a span wire to a mast arm.

Proposed Hwy. 36A project: The proposed roadway aims to provide congestion relief and an alternative route for large trucks to travel from Port Freeport to reach major highways.

• Funding source: Undetermined

Jamaica Pon Di Road has set an opening date for its new Missouri City location, officials announced in a Sept. 6 Instagram post.

On the menu: The eatery is known for its oxtail cheesesteak, jerk chicken, meat patties, drunken plantains and egg rolls, according to its website. The restaurant also offers catering services with jerk and curry wings, oxtails, and catfish.

About the restaurant: Gareth Powell, known in Houston as Chef G, attended culinary school in Jamaica, where he was born, according to the restaurant website. In 2016, he opened a food truck and eventually opened a dine-in location in a light blue, house-like building in Acres Homes.

One more thing: The Sept. 19 grand opening will feature a DJ and giveaways, according to the restaurant’s Instagram post.

• 3424 FM 1092, Missouri City

This November, four candidates are running to lead the Texas Comptroller's Office and serve as the state's chief financial officer.

The overview: Libertarian V. Alonzo Echavarria-Garza, Democrat Sarah Eckhardt, Green Party candidate Shehla Faizi and Republican Don Huffines are running for comptroller. Huffines, whom Gov. Greg Abbott appointed to the office in July, is considered the incumbent in this race.

How it works: The comptroller oversees government spending and administers the state's $1 billion education savings account program, which launched ahead of the 2026-27 school year.

Looking ahead: Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30 in the midterm election, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
