Celina officials discuss downtown ‘softening’ despite population growth

As Celina’s population grows, its downtown area hasn’t grown at the same rate, according to city officials.

The approach: To help downtown businesses take advantage of the city’s growth, officials are laying out a strategic vision for the area, and they're looking to Grapevine and McKinney for inspiration.

Quote of note: “It’s important to remember that it was a ghost town five years ago,” Mayor Pro Tem Eddie Cawlfield said. “Progress is happening.”

Total Wine to open this spring at Gates of Prosper

Total Wine and More is opening soon in Prosper, a store representative confirmed. 

Zooming in: The new location at the Gates of Prosper is scheduled to open in the first week of March, the representative said. Total Wine and More offers wines, spirits, beers, hard seltzers and more.

JetBlue Airways to add year-round flights from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to Florida

JetBlue Airways will launch year-round flights from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

The gist: According to a news release, the largest carrier at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will launch daily, year-round flights to DFW Airport starting March 12, following its initial announcement as a spring break-only service.

Additional daily frequency flights have been added from DFW Airport, running from March 12-23.

What they're saying: “These additions reflect the momentum we’ve built in Florida and our continued investment in Fort Lauderdale as a key gateway in our network,”
said Dave Jehn, JetBlue’s vice president of network planning and airline partnerships.

More details: The year-round flights from Florida to Texas will depart at 8:35 p.m. and arrive at 10:53 p.m, while departures from DFW Airport will leave at 6:15 a.m. and land in Florida at 9:55 a.m.

Afternoon departures will be available during the March 12-23 period, according to the website.

Ichika sets opening date to offer Japanese cuisine, interactive dining experience in Plano

Ichika will be open to the public for reservations starting March 1 in Plano.

The restaurant will be Texas’ first kaiseki-dedicated restaurant and one of the few kappo-style dining experiences in the country, owner Leo Kekoa said.

Kekoa said kappo-style kaiseki is traditionally served in formal dining rooms but that will not be the case at Ichika.

Three Wide Brewing Co. serves hand-crafted beer, food in Fort Worth

Three Wide Brewing Co. brings more than 30 taps of beer that is brewed in-house to Fort Worth and aims to bring guests a unique experience.

Co-owners Anderson and Matt Morris started brewing beers at home before deciding to monetize their hobby. Popular items include the hot soppressata and honey pizza, which has whipped ricotta, mozzarella cheese, spicy soppressata and hot honey, and the bratwurst, which Chef Roger Evaristo makes in house, Anderson said.
