The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation in partnership with the city of Pflugerville, celebrated the completion of the Helios Way expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 4.

The why: Helios Way was extended to improve access to the SH 130 frontage road and support industrial development in the area, enhancing access for manufacturers, logistics providers, commercial businesses and future employers.

The details: The project connected the Helios Way right-in and right-out driveway to the SH 130 frontage road alongside the Impact Way Phase 4 project, a $6.7 million roadway extension in Pflugerville that added roughly 1,500 feet of new roadway and utility lines to extend Impact Way to Cameron Road.

The project totaled $5.8 million and was funded by PCDC Type B sales tax.

What they're saying: "Helios Way represents more than a new roadway. It represents our commitment to creating an environment where businesses can invest with confidence and where quality jobs can continue to grow," PCDC board President Darelle White said in a news release.

Hutto ISD will welcome more than 10,000 students for the first day of the 2026-27 school year Aug. 12.

What to expect: Several campus improvement projects funded by the 2023 bond are underway in the district, including renovations to Hutto High School that are expected to be completed in November.

The comprehensive renovation adds rebuilt welding and agricultural education spaces, updated robotics and auto mechanics shops, health science and audio-visual technical labs, new fine arts spaces, and an upgraded competition gym.

Looking ahead: Here are some other important dates for HISD students and families.

The Williamson County and Cities Health District, which provides public health resources and clinics throughout the county, presented updates on disease monitoring, service expansions and regulatory changes at a June 28 Georgetown City Council workshop.

What’s happening: The health district is monitoring both West Nile virus detections and active cases of cyclospora, Executive Director Amber Erickson said at the meeting.

The WCCHD operates 12 mosquito traps in Georgetown, eight of which tested positive for West Nile in the past month. The most recent positive detections were located in Edwards Park and in the Sun City community, Erickson said.

Health officials are also monitoring active cases of cyclospora, a parasitic stomach illness caused by contaminated food or water. Although some cases are associated with a national outbreak, no local point source has been identified, Erickson said.

What else? The WCCHD will purchase a new mobile clinical unit to increase healthcare access within the next six months, Erickson said. The mobile unit will address the current lack of a permanent clinic in Georgetown, she said.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport officials announced in a July 29 news release that the airport recorded its busiest month ever for passenger traffic in June, servicing 2,102,853 departing and arriving passengers.

The details: Per the release, AUS' passenger traffic growth for June 2026 was up 4.4% compared to June 2025.

Data also shows that Southwest Airlines saw the most passenger traffic in June with with 916,510 passengers served, up 10.9% year-over-year. While JetBlue Airways only serviced 26,929 passengers, it had the highest year-over-year passenger increase at 241.7%. The number of Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa, Copa Airlines and VivaAerobus passengers were also up year-over-year, while American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Allegiant Air, Air Canada, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Aeromexico and Sun Country Airlines saw a decrease in passengers year-over-year. WestJet had the highest dip with 2,104 passengers, down 44%.

In case you missed it: Along with ongoing multi-year expansion efforts which includes terminal and airfield infrastructure work, the airport has launched several new airline routes and accessibility initiatives in recent months.
