Austin's $295M parks, library bonds headed for passage

Based on early election results released after polls closed on Nov. 3, two bond propositions totaling nearly $300 million for Austin public parks and library projects are headed toward voter approval. The measures include:

  • Proposition A, a $260 million parks bond for land acquisitions and park improvements, which received more than 62.5% of early votes.

  • Proposition B, a $35 million library bond to fund two library branch projects in Southwest and far East Austin, which received 62% of early votes.

The City Council placed these measures on the ballot against city staff's financial recommendations. The new debt is expected to cost taxpayers about $11 per $100,000 of property value annually once fully issued. For a typical Austin home valued at $377,282, the tax impact is projected to start at just under $7 next year and rise to about $41.60 once all bonds are issued.
