Burlington Coat Factory plans to downsize its Richardson location and make room for an additional business. City Council approved a rezoning Aug. 17 for the property that will allow additional uses in the vacant half of the building, including fitness or entertainment businesses.

The overview: Burlington Coat Factory currently occupies a 74,000-square-foot building on S. Plano Road. The store is not currently using the entire building, said Maxwell Fisher, a consultant with Zonedev who is representing the property owners. Burlington plans to downsize to half of the building, leaving the other half open for another tenant.

The details: Fisher said the new business is likely to be a fitness center, as several have already expressed interest in the site. Other uses allowed under the rezoning include a bowling alley, fine arts studio, movie theater or martial arts school.

This November, Libertarian Ted Brown, Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico are running to be Texas' next U.S. senator.

The overview: Each state has two U.S. senators serving staggered terms, with Ted Cruz and John Cornyn currently representing Texas. Cornyn ran for reelection but lost his primary race, and the winner of the November election will replace him in January.

Paxton advanced to the general election after beating Cornyn in a primary runoff, while Talarico beat two other contenders in the Democratic primary, Community Impact reported. Brown was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

At the polls: Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30 for dozens of statewide and local races. Election Day is Nov. 3.
