Argyle voters will decide on two proposals for this upcoming May election alongside voting for council places 1, 3 and 5.

The special elections will ask voters whether they want to reauthorize the sales tax collections dedicated to street maintenance and extend the council terms from two to three years.

Council unanimously voted to call the special elections at the Jan. 20 meeting.

What’s happening? Currently, Argyle poses a 2% sales tax rate, with 0.5% of that sales tax dedicated to funding street maintenance. The special election in May will ask Argyle voters if they want to continue putting 0.5% of sales tax dollars toward that fund, per town documents.

More details: The second special election item asks voters if they want to extend council terms from two to three years and establish a staggered election schedule starting in 2027, per town documents.

Dutch Bros Coffee is now open in Flower Mound on Long Prairie Road, according to a news release from the company. 

What's on the menu: Dutch Bros serves specialty coffee, smoothies, freezes, teas, Rebel energy drinks and nitrogen-infused cold brew coffee, per the release. 

Also of note: Dutch Bros partners with local organizations who are focused on enriching their communities, the release states. 

Dutch Bros was founded in Grants Pass, Oregon in 1992 and now has 1,050 locations across 24 states, per the release.

With temperatures reaching above 32 degrees across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex on Tuesday, icy roads began to melt; however, roads are expected to refreeze overnight as temperatures drop again.

While the DFW area is not going to see anymore freezing precipitation, roads are not going to have a chance to clear again until mid-day Wednesday, National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Bishop said.

Quote of note: "Whatever melted today is going to refreeze tonight," he said. 

Current situation: Temperatures are expected to drop into the low 20s again Tuesday into Wednesday, Bishop said, which will cause more issues on area roads and sidewalks. Currently, roads are expected to improve more on Wednesday afternoon than they did Tuesday, he said. 

Temperature highs are expected to be in the 40s Wednesday and around 50 degrees Thursday, per the NWS. 

A new fire station in Flower Mound and industrial warehouse development in the Alliance area are among other projects recently filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

In the upcoming March 3 primary, voters will select the Democratic candidate in the race for Texas governor. Nine Democrats are seeking the nomination.

The big picture: Patricia Abrego, Chris Bell, Bobby Cole, Carlton Hart, Gina Hinojosa, Jose Navarro Balbuena, Faizan Syed, Zach Vance and Angela “Tia Angie” Villescaz will appear on the Democratic primary ballot for Texas governor.

Stay tuned: If no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes in the Democratic primary, a runoff election will be held between the two top vote-getters May 26.

The winning Democratic candidate will face the Republican nominee in November, and the winner of that race will be sworn in for a four-year term in January 2027.

In the upcoming March 3 primary, voters will select the Republican candidate in the race for Texas governor. Eleven Republicans are seeking the nomination.

The overview: Republican incumbent Greg Abbott is seeking a fourth term in the governor's office. He is challenged by ten Republican candidates: R.F. "Bob" Achgill, Evelyn Brooks, Pete “Doc” Chambers, Charles Andrew Crouch, Arturo Espinosa, Mark V. Goloby, Kenneth Hyde, Stephen Samuelson, Ronnie Tullos and Nathaniel Welch.
