Richardson ISD to install portable building at Canyon Creek Elementary

Richardson ISD will install a portable classroom building at Canyon Creek Elementary in June after City Council unanimously approved a temporary use permit March 23.

The details: City planner Aaron Zilz said the temporary building will serve as additional classroom space for sixth-grade students at Canyon Creek. The building, which will house two classrooms, is set to be in use from June 2026 to June 2028.

What's next: Renovations at Richardson North Junior High are expected to be completed in summer 2028, transforming the junior high into a middle school for sixth through eighth grade. At that time, Canyon Creek’s sixth graders will transfer over to Richardson North, freeing up classroom space at the elementary.
