What to know about the 76th annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade

The 76th annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade will be celebrated Nov. 27 at 9 a.m. in Downtown Houston this year. Hundreds of thousands of patrons are expected to gather for the event, officials said.

The celebration: Here is what visitors need to know before heading to Houston.

  • Date and time: Nov. 27, 9 a.m.
  • Starting location: the corner of Lamar and Smith Street
  • Cost: free to the public, or $33 per ticket for reserved seating

The parade route will traverse over 20 blocks along Smith, Walker, Milam and Louisiana streets.

Fun for the family: This year's parade will be led by Houston's sports mascots such as Clutch, Diesel, Orbit and Toro. According to an Oct. 27 news release, the event will also feature a lineup of new floats, balloons, live performances and holiday characters.

Entertainers this year include Christina Wells, a semifinalist from America's Got Talent; Danny Gokey; Payton Howie; Gloria Prince; and Bridgjette Jackson.

Pizza Twist now serving fusion pies in Cypress

Fusion restaurant Pizza Twist is now serving pies on Barker Cypress Road, according to the business' social media.

The details: The fusion pizza joint offers a combination of traditional pies and Indian-inspired twists including naan pizzas, Tikka Masala pizza and butter chicken pizza, according to the restaurant's website. Pizza Twist also serves a variety of pastas, wings and desserts, with Halal and gluten-free items available.

Located at 10760 Barker Cypress Road Ste. 200, Cypress, the restaurant opened its doors in early October and held a grand opening celebration Nov. 7, according to a social media post.

Zooming out: This marks the third franchise in the Greater Houston area, with locations in Conroe and Sugar Land, per previous Community Impact reporting.

Check out 8 Houston-area organizations hosting toy drives this holiday season

With Christmas quickly approaching, here are eight organizations hosting toy drives for children that anyone can participate in. This list is not comprehensive, and details are subject to change.

Pearland Neighborhood Center Toy Drive: The Pearland Neighborhood Center is partnering with the Pearland Police Department for a holiday toy drive. Local businesses can contact officer Ryden Cohen to sign up to host a donation box where residents can drop off new toys for families in need.

  • Suggested donations: new, unused and unwrapped toys


Holiday Toy Store: Ronald McDonald House is collecting toy donations for babies and teens. Gifts must be new, in original packaging and unwrapped, and will be delivered to residents’ doors on Christmas morning.
