2 candidates to vie for Cibolo mayoral position

Two candidates have submitted filings to compete for the position of Cibolo’s mayor.

At a glance: On Nov. 4, the mayoral position will be contested between candidates Kara Latimer and Terry Hinze.

The winning candidate will replace Mark Allen in the role. Allen has served as Cibolo’s mayor since November 2022, according to the city website. Communications Manager Janet Gonzalez told Community Impact that Allen has reached his term limit.

According to candidate filings, Latimer has lived in Cibolo for 22 years and Hinze has lived in Cibolo for 30 years.

Crunch Fitness opening soon near Live Oak, Windcrest

A new 24/7 fitness center is slated to open soon in Windcrest, near Live Oak and Northeast San Antonio.

In case you missed it: Crunch Fitness, a nationwide gym chain, is continuing to grow its footprint in the San Antonio market. Gym staff said they’re planning to open on Sept. 24 at 7730 N. I-35.

Crunch recently opened another location on the city’s north side in July, situated at 10103 Wurzbach Road.

The overview: The gym offers memberships for general access, fitness classes, saunas, showers and more, according to the business's website.
There are also personal trainers available for athletes' needs.

Equipment includes machines, free weight sets like dumbbells and room for stretching and intense circuit workouts.

New flyover ramp opens Aug. 28 on Loop 1604 North Expansion

The Texas Department of Transportation opened a new flyover ramp at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange in Northwest San Antonio at 5 p.m. Aug. 28.

Zooming in: This latest development is part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion project, a $1.4 billion project that includes the expansion of main lanes from a four-lane to a 10-lane expressway.

Drivers will be able to access the flyover ramp on Loop 1604, just past Northwest Military Highway, and connect to I-10 before the De Zavala Road exit. The new ramp will provide drivers with an easier connection when traveling from westbound Loop 1604 to eastbound I-10, according to a news release from TxDOT.

The background: In the last eight months, three flyover ramps have opened, with more planned for the future. A fourth flyover is anticipated to open later this year, with all eight being completed by the end of 2025, according to the news release.

San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo announces 2026 music, events lineup

As the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo approaches, the first lineup of musical guests has been released.

The details: Ty Myers, Miranda Lambert and other musicians are slated to perform at this year's rodeo.

In case you missed it: The rodeo will take place Feb. 16 to March 1 at the Frost Bank Center, according to the organization's website.

There will be 19 performances from individuals in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, with five different brackets worth of competition.

Other than the main rodeo competition and live concerts, other notable happenings at the event include youth Mutton Bustin’, vendors, carnival rides, food and more.

The first rodeo was held in 1949 and attracts over 1 million visitors each year, according to officials with the rodeo.
