Denton officials OK nearly $18M for parking lot repairs

Denton City Council approved $17.8 million to improve parking lots and sidewalks at city facilities at a June 2 council meeting.

In a nutshell: Council approved contracts with pavement construction companies Alderink Enterprises, CI Pavement and Diamond M Construction and Land Services to perform parking lot repairs identified in a 2023 city parking lot study, council documents state.

The work also includes making American's with Disability Acts improvements outlined in the city’s 2022 ADA transition plan.

By the numbers: The agreement covers parking and ADA improvements over a five-year period, starting in fiscal year 2025-26 with the contract ending in FY 2029-30.

Lucky Dog Mobile Groomers launches pet grooming service in North Texas

Lucky Dog Mobile Groomers is now operational and offering services in parts of North Texas, a news release states.

The specifics: The franchise, led by local owner Amy Morrison, offers service in Allen, Denton, Frisco, McKinney, Plano and more. The professional grooming service offers one-on-one dog grooming in fully equipped mobile units. 

"Mobile grooming offers a more convenient option while also creating a calmer, one-on-one experience for dogs,” Morrison said in the release.

The Brunch District serves breakfast, lunch in Frisco

The Brunch District opened its newest location in Frisco, a company representative confirmed.

The menu includes Southern and Tex-Mex breakfast classics like steak and eggs, loaded grits and migas, as well as lunch options like sandwiches and salads.

Frisco is The Brunch District’s fourth location alongside restaurants in Colleyville, McKinney and Addison.

Sourdough Bread Deli offers fresh sandwiches, baked goods in Plano

Plano sandwich shop Sourdough Bread Deli offers a homemade menu that uses fresh ingredients from its bread to its meats.

Sourdough Bread Deli owner Veronika Prishutov-Wells said she and her teammate, Sviatlana Filistovich, take roughly two hours each morning to bake the restaurant’s bread from scratch.

Prishutov-Wells said the store uses fresh meats and vegetables, which are cut daily. Customers can order a lunch box that comes with chips, a cookie and a pickle.

Portillo’s launches first-ever airport location in North Texas

The first airport restaurant for Portillo’s opened inside Terminal B at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in late May.

Travelers can order Portillo’s signature menu items like Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers and Portillo’s chocolate cake, according to a news release. Plans for the Chicago eatery were first announced last May, according to previous reporting.

The details: The restaurant features self-order kiosks and order-ahead pickup, as well as a Portillo’s Grab & Go area. There is also a variety of seating options for more than 50 guests, according to the restaurant’s website.

Portillo’s partner at the airport is PhaseNext Hospitality, according to previous reporting.

What else? The Chicago-based company has two locations in Fort Worth, as well as restaurants in Arlington, Dallas, Mansfield, Grand Prairie, Grapevine and The Colony, according to its website.
