State grant application, zoning district updates: Check out 3 Grapevine council actions you may have missed

From requesting state funds to update water meters in Grapevine to amending allowed uses within the neighborhood commercial and professional office zoning districts, see the latest on three actions taken during the July 21 council meeting.

Texas Water Development Board grant application
Grapevine City Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing an application for a Water Supply and Infrastructure Grant through the Texas Water Development Board.

The grant requests nearly $2.37 million that will help cover costs for the city’s water meter replacement program. If approved by the board, the grant would cover the cost in full.

Zoning district updates
Council also approved updates to two zoning districts to help clarify permitted uses.

Updates included rolling uses identified in the limited business district into the neighborhood commercial zoning district, which is intended to clarify allowed uses within the latter, said Erica Marohnic, director of planning services.

Kitchen Master serves Asian fusion cuisine in Southlake

A new Asian fusion restaurant, Kitchen Master, has opened in Southlake.

What's on the menu: The menu focuses on Chinese dishes, but incorporates Japanese and Thai influences, restaurant staff said. Customers can order dishes including teriyaki chicken, black pepper steak and crab Rangoon.

Restaurant staff said the Southlake location also features house soup dumplings, sushi, including nigiri, and sashimi.

What else: Kitchen Master takes over a space formerly occupied by Mughlai Fine Indian Restaurant, which closed in April 2024.

Texas Woman’s University to build $30M athletics facility

Texas Woman’s University will construct a $30 million brand-new athletics facility, the university announced.

What’s happening: The university received a $10 million donation from an alumna that will go toward the on-campus athletics facility, according to a news release. The venue is expected to break ground in 2027.

Dawn Chaney, who played three sports at TWU in the 1960s, made the donation to the project. The new facility will bear her name.

The athletics complex will be 30,000-35,000 square feet and will support the university’s growing athletics program as well as the needs of student-athletes, the release states.

“I am excited to support this new athletics complex because it will provide student-athletes with the resources, facilities and opportunities they deserve to excel in competition, in the classroom and in life,” Chaney said.
