Richardson officials are on track to approve a proposed $432 million city budget with no property tax rate increase for fiscal year 2026-27. The proposal includes compensation increases for city employees, a new water and wastewater rate plan and added investments in public safety, infrastructure and economic development. City Council also approved a proposed debt rate on Aug. 17.

The overview: City Manager Don Magner said this is the largest budget the city has ever adopted. The total $432 million operating budget is about $13.7 million more than the budget for fiscal year 2025-26, an increase of roughly 3.3%.

Some context: The city budget includes the general fund, which covers the city’s operating expenses and most city services, as well as budgets for water and sewer, solid waste services, golf and hotel/motel tax funds. Additional components include Richardson's debt service, internal service and restricted purpose funds.

Only Deals is now closed in Richardson.

The specifics: The store offered overstock and return products from stores such as Walmart, Target and Amazon.

A lockout notice was posted on the business’ door on July 10. Only Deals still operates online.

Medical City McKinney is operating a new wing dedicated to treating a rare and inflammatory skin condition with specialized care.

The overview: The hospital opened an 11-bed wing in January that’s dedicated to treating patients with advanced hidradenitis suppurativa, referred to as HS. The condition typically develops in armpits, inner thighs, breasts and groin areas, according to the US Food and Drug Administration.

Quote of note: Medical City McKinney CEO Mark Deno said the condition starts with an infected hair follicle that can create a wound with a “tunneling effect” under the skin. Medical City McKinney Nurse Manager Megan Palmer said it starts out looking like a pimple but it can tunnel below the skin as the condition progresses through three stages.

“What you see on the outside as a small acne area could really be a lot larger tunnelling under the skin,” Palmer said.
