Lake Travis ISD could see $1.2 million budget shortfall in 2026-27

Early projections show Lake Travis ISD could see either a $450,000 or $1.2 million budget shortfall in 2026-27 if various reductions are made. The board of trustees held a budget workshop April 2 to discuss these projections with district officials.

The update: The district will use new staffing ratios based on LTISD's lowered projected enrollment. This would equate to a 1-20 ratio in pre-K classrooms; 22-1 in kindergarten and first grade; 23-1 in second, third and fourth grades; and 26-1 in fifth grade.

In total, proposed reductions through attrition include 16 positions in curriculum and instruction, seven positions in special services, two positions in technology, two positions in organizational services, and two positions in maintenance and operations.

The projected $450,000 budget shortfall does not include salary increases. With a 1% of midpoint salary increase for all staff, the budget shortfall would climb to $1.2 million.

Something to note: Last year, LTISD shifted its fiscal year, and the board will now adopt its 2026-27 budget by June 30 instead of August.

Travis County to hold open house for Deer Creek road projects April 13

Deer Creek residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback on Travis County’s plans to update substandard roads in their neighborhood this April, according to a news release.

Travis County will hold an open house to discuss the project April 13 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Travis County Parks West Facility at 14624 Hamilton Pool Road, Austin.

The details: The project includes several residential roads in the area that are not currently maintained by Travis County but have been identified as needing repairs. Proposed improvements involve reconstructing existing roadways and adding drainage enhancements.

As part of a countywide effort to improve substandard roads, once completed the roads are intended to meet the standards necessary to be accepted by the county for maintenance.

What else? A virtual open house will be held April 13-24, where neighbors can submit comments on the projects online, or by phone or email.

Following completion of the community engagement process, the development of final designs will begin.
