Groundbreaking celebration to be held for Pat’s Donuts in New Caney

On May 5, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held for a new Pat’s Donuts location coming soon to New Caney. The event will take place from 10:30 a.m.-noon.

Learn more: The business sells doughnuts, pastries and breakfast foods—such as tacos, kolaches and croissant sandwiches. Iced and hot coffee, cappuccinos and other drinks are also available.

Partial closure planned for Sorters Road in Porter on March 27

Drivers can expect delays along Sorters Road in Porter on March 27 while one lane of the roadway is closed for construction.

What's happening? One lane of Sorters Road will be closed from where the road intersects with Northpark Drive to where the road intersects with Northpark Woods Boulevard. The closure is expected to last only one day while work is done on the bridge over South Bentwood Channel.

The conditions: Flaggers will be positioned in the area to direct traffic. Drivers are asked to avoid the area if they are able.

SHSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine celebrates Match Day

On March 20, student doctors at Sam Houston State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine celebrated Match Day and learned where they would go for their residencies.

Some context: Student doctors interview with residency programs across the country, and submit a ranked list of the residency programs where they’d like to train, COM Dean Thomas Mohr said. The residency programs also rank the students they’ve interviewed, and after the preferences are processed, student doctors are paired with residency programs.

By the numbers: According to a March 20 news release:

  • COM’s residency placement rate exceeded 99%.
  • Almost 66% of student doctors will remain in Texas for their residencies.
  • A little over 51% of student doctors matched into primary care specialties such as family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics.
  • 26% of student doctors matched into emergency medicine.

Saigon Cafe recently celebrated the opening of its new location at 15906 Woodland Hills Drive, Ste. 500, Humble, which offers a variety of Vietnamese dishes, including banh mi, vermicelli, pho and rolls. The restaurant also offers Vietnamese coffee, milk tea, brown sugar boba and boba tea.

The Caffeine Collective offers space for women-owned businesses in Magnolia

Jinxie Peruzzi, mother of eight children and business owner of The Caffeine Collective and Buddy and Sis Co., said she founded her own coffee shop to offer a community space for other mothers to feel welcome and at ease in a family-friendly environment.

Along with several coffee classics offered, Peruzzi said her favorite part of the cafe is creating seasonal coffee options, such as the raspberry rose latte and matcha-inspired drinks.

The cafe is also known for its buckets of coffee—34 ounces—and its coffee flights, four mini surprise coffee options for customers who want to try a variety of flavors.
