Boerne public parking lot to close Feb. 16 for renovations

The Cibolo Parking Lot, located near Plant Avenue in Boerne, is planned for renovations. On Feb. 5, city staff and officials broke ground on the project, which is expected to be under construction for three months.

The details: On Feb. 16, the lot is planned to be closed to the public for the duration of the renovation project, which will include:

  • New asphalt, curbing, and striping
  • Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks
  • New entry and exit along Mesquite Street
  • New dark sky-compliant lighting
  • Upgraded signage identifying public parking
  • Enhanced landscaping

The number of parking spaces is not expected to change, but the existing spaces will be slightly wider, allowing easier parking for larger vehicles. According to the city website, street parking along Plant Avenue, Mesquite Street and River Road will remain available. Spaces closest to the construction area may be temporarily impacted.

Fair Oaks Ranch H-E-B to add True Texas BBQ soon

The Texas grocery giant has filed permits to expand at its lone location near Fair Oaks Ranch in the coming months.

Latest update: The H-E-B at 29388 W. I-10 frontage road, near Fair Oaks Ranch, may see a True Texas BBQ open by the fall.

According to permits that H-E-B filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the $2 million expansion may begin as early as June and be completed in September.

The new restaurant and dining area will add approximately 4,465 square feet to the existing grocery store.

What’s special about it? True Texas BBQ is a fast-casual barbecue joint located at various H-E-B stores across Texas, according to its website.

On the menu is smoked meat ready-to-order by the pound, traditional barbecue plates with sides and a variety of specialty sandwiches.

Mr. Crabby’s Seafood Kitchen opens along North Loop 1604

Mr. Crabby’s Seafood Kitchen—a Cajun-inspired seafood restaurant—opened in the Stone Oak area in early January.

The details: Owned by John Zheng, the restaurant serves seafood and other Louisiana-inspired dishes and offers a full bar with a wide selection of beer and wine.

The restaurant serves Cajun classics, such as po’ boys, fried gator, crawfish etouffee and gumbo, according to its website. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of seafood boils and fried seafood baskets. Appetizers include hushpuppies, fried mozzarella cheese and calamari. Specialty cocktails include hurricanes and margaritas in a variety of flavors, such as lime, strawberry, prickly pear, blueberry and peach.

University Health purchases $50M medical towers adjacent to Babcock Specialty Hospital

On Jan. 20, University Health entered into a $50 million agreement to purchase two medical towers, known as Northwest Medical Tower I and Tower II.

The details: This purchase was made in light of the recent purchase of the Babcock Specialty Hospital, which was formerly the Christus Santa Rosa Medical Center Campus, on July 29, 2025, according to a news release. Adjacent to the hospital and connected to its second floor via a skybridge, the towers will offer the new hospital an ideal location for additional clinics and providers, the news release states.

The background: According to the news release, the seven-story, 123,055-square-foot Northwest Tower I was built in 1986, while the four-story, 77,778-square-foot Northwest Tower II was built in 1986. Totaling a combined 200,833 square feet, the towers received a $5.2 million renovation, including upgrades to the common areas, elevators and HVAC.

Currently, rent-paying tenants occupy roughly 179,000 square feet between both towers, with Christus Santa Rosa Healthcare leasing around 46,000 square feet.
