White Oak Bayou channel upgrades boost storm protection for Cypress-area homes

The completion of a $28 million flood mitigation project in Cypress could safeguard approximately 2,000 homes from major storm event flooding, according to officials with Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey's office.

What they're saying: Precinct 3 officials announced Nov. 17 that they completed the channel widening for the White Oak Bayou tributary.

“This project also reflects the use of great engineering put forth by professionals with knowledge of this community and its needs for better stormwater conveyance," Ramsey said in the news release.

The cost: The project was funded through the 2018 Harris County Flood Control District bond program, officials said, and it widened the channel and converted the area to concrete, which will reduce erosion and improve stormwater flow efficiency.
