Conroe ISD receives overall B rating for third consecutive year from Texas Education Agency

The Texas Education Agency released the A-F accountability ratings for the 2026 school year on Aug. 15. Conroe ISD has secured its third consecutive 85 score and fifth consecutive B rating from the TEA, while also improving the year-over-year score for multiple campuses.

District growth: According to the TEA website, the accountability ratings are measured through 3 factors: student achievement, school progress, and closing the gaps.

Conroe ISD currently contains 66 different campuses; the grade breakdown for each campus is as follows: 

  • 22 campuses earned an A 

  • 26 campuses earned a B

  • 11 campuses earned a C

  • 5 campuses earned a D

  • 2 campuses earned an F

Quote of note: According to an Aug, 16 news release, Conroe ISD Superintendent David Vinson praised the overall improvement in the district.
“Earning an A for the first time or making double-digit gains does not happen by accident,” Vinson said. “These results represent thousands of hours of planning, teaching, intervention, encouragement and hard work by our students, teachers, support staff, campus leaders and families.

Conroe approves emergency well repair, eminent domain for water plant projects

Conroe City Council moved several water infrastructure projects forward Aug. 13, including a $572,425 emergency rehabilitation of Water Well No. 26 and the use of eminent domain to acquire property for two future water plants.

The most immediate concern centered on Water Well No. 26, a high-priority well on McCaleb Road that city officials said could fail at any time. The well is still operating, but there is currently no city-owned backup well serving the area.

What happened: Newly appointed Public Works Director Jason Miller said Water Well No. 26 needs major pumping equipment repairs and presented council with two options. One would cost $423,820 and take an estimated 10-12 weeks, while an expedited option would cost $572,425 and reduce the lead time to five weeks, according to city documents.

Miller said the city would typically bid the project but used a BuyBoard purchasing contract because of the emergency situation.

“This well is running. However, it could catastrophically fail at any given time,” Miller said.
Council ultimately approved the expedited five-week option without opposition.

Live updates: ERCOT will complete data center audit in late 2026, officials say

The Texas House State Affairs Committee heard from power grid officials; data center developers and industry representatives; local government officials; cybersecurity experts; and utility companies during an Aug. 19 hearing on the growth of data centers in the state. Dozens of Texas residents also testified about the impact of data centers in their communities.

The details: Pablo Vegas, CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, said it will take the grid operator several months to audit about 200 gigawatts of data center proposals. ERCOT will request information from all large and medium-sized data centers that are expected to use at least 25 megawatts of electricity.

ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission were ordered on Aug. 3 to audit all data centers seeking to connect to Texas’ power grid. They anticipate completing that audit in late November or early December, Vegas said.
