Richardson City Council calls election for $223.4 million bond

Richardson voters are set to consider a $223.4 million bond in May after City Council voted unanimously to call a bond election on Feb. 9.

What you need to know: The bond will appear on the ballot as five separate propositions:

  • Proposition A: $132.2 million for street improvements
  • Proposition B: $36 million for fire facilities
  • Proposition C: $22.2 million for park and recreational facilities
  • Proposition D: $16.5 million for sidewalks
  • Proposition E: $16.5 million for flood control and drainage facilities

Quote of note: 
“I’m really excited about a record number for infrastructure on the streets and alleys,” Mayor Amir Omar said.

What's next: The election will take place on May 2, with early voting from April 20-April 28.

LJB Engineering opens new office in Richardson

LJB Engineering opened a new office in Richardson, relocating its Dallas team from Garland. Staff began working out of the new office on Dec. 8 and LJB hosted a grand opening on Feb. 5, business development executive Marta Gomez Frey said in an email.

LJB Engineering, a North American firm, acquired the Garland-based Grantham & Associates, Inc. in 2024 and planned the move to Richardson in order to provide space for staff growth. The firm offers civil and structural engineering for both public and private clients and the Richardson office focuses primarily on civil engineering and surveying, including land development, transportation and trail design and drainage work, Frey said.

McKinney apartment renovations, Flower Mound street reconstruction: See 5 of the latest permits filed in the DFW area

Apartment renovations and road reconstruction in Flower Mound are two new projects filed recently with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Here are five of the most expensive permits for North Texas-area projects filed with TDLR in the past week.

1. Indco I-35 Eagle: A new 111,923-square-foot building with office and warehouse space will be constructed along I-35, according to a TDLR filing. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

  • Location: I-35 frontage road, Fort Worth
  • Estimated timeline: April 1-Dec. 31
  • Estimated cost: $21 million

2. Skyway Villas Apartments renovations: A local apartment complex in McKinney is renovating the interior and exterior of 233 apartment units, according to a TDLR filing. Renovations are estimated to take roughly a year and a half to complete.
  • Location: 2000 Skyline Drive, McKinney
  • Estimated timeline: July 1, 2026-Jan. 1, 2028
  • Estimated cost: $20 million
