New $97.1M, 103,000-square-foot Allen Police HQ set for early 2027 opening

The Allen Police Department will move into a new $97.1 million facility in early 2027.

The overview: This comes after Allen voters passed a $83 million bond in 2023 to fund the project. The 103,000-square-foot, three-story facility will be located on Century Parkway, between Allen City Hall and the Allen post office, according to city documents.

Assistant Police Chief Kyle Taliaferro said the department has grown in size along with the city and outgrew its current facility several years ago.

“I want the community to know how much we appreciate their support,” Taliaferro said. “This was a huge ask.”

A closer look: The new headquarters will include:

  • A large community room for public events
  • An expanded property and evidence room
  • A larger crime scene lab
  • Secure parking
  • Strategically organized workspaces

Sloan Corners moves forward following 10-year economic incentive agreement with Allen

Plans for Sloan Corners, a nearly 500-acre project, continues to move forward.

The gist: Allen City Council unanimously approved an economic development incentive agreement with Billingsley Company related to the construction of mixed-use development Sloan Corners at a Jan. 28 meeting. The 10-year agreement creates an additional stream of tax dollars for the city, and in return, Billingsley Company will receive a rebate for a portion of their construction costs, per city documents.

Zoom in: Usually developers pay sales tax on construction materials to the location where the materials were purchased, city documents state. This agreement allows 50% of these taxes to go toward the city of Allen, the Allen Economic Development Corporation and the Allen Community Development Corporation. In exchange for bringing in additional revenue to the city, Allen is giving the developer a 50% rebate on the sales and use taxes for the construction materials, according to city documents.

On The Transportation Beat
Allen improves road safety through $4.6M TxDOT grant

The city of Allen is improving road safety by upgrading traffic signals, adding turn lanes and installing better detection technology with a $4.6 million grant from the Texas Department of Transportation through its Highway Safety Improvement Plan.

Zoom in: Utilizing TxDOT funding for these improvements allows the city to upgrade streets and improve safety without increasing the tax burden on residents, Director of Engineering Chris Flanigan said.

“In a resource-constrained environment, whenever we're able to benefit from funding outside of the city limits, that's always something we're talking about,” Chris Flanigan said.

City officials identified 16 intersections for improvement, Flanigan said. Work has been completed on all intersections except:

  • Century Parkway and Bethany Drive
  • Greenville Avenue and Bethany Drive
  • Greenville Avenue and Main Street

The action comes more than a week after current Superintendent Robin Bullock announced she would retire at the end of the 2025-26 school year.
