At the upcoming Sept. 15 regular meeting, the Conroe ISD board of trustees will review multiple financial statements and approve new educational support systems for teachers.

Breaking it down: CISD board members will review multiple financial reports at the upcoming meeting, as well as an amendment to the recently approved budget and an update from the audit and investment committee. As previously reported, CISD's approved budget is set at $769.6 million, with a tax rate of $0.9471 per $100 valuation. 

According to their website, the Audit and Investment Committee is a sub-committee of the CISD board that oversees district financial compliance, investments, and internal audits. Their meeting is scheduled for Sept. 9, with the Sept. 15 presentation being an update of their findings. 

One more thing: The regular board meeting will be held Sept. 15 at the Walter P. Jett Continuing Education Center located at 19043 David Memorial Drive, Shenandoah.

Montgomery County Commissioners discussed wildfire prevention after recent rains quelled the need for a burn ban during its Sept. 3 meeting.

The gist: While commissioners did not take action due to recent rains tampering drought concerns, Montgomery County Fire Marshal Jimmy Williams emphasized the importance of educating residents about burn bans.

Williams said announcements that burn bans have been lifted can lead some residents to believe they are allowed to burn refuse, despite restrictions that remain in place year-round.

This concern over burning follows a dry season that put much of the region at risk of wildfires. In March 2025 a wildfire on Pauline Road affected 2,360 acres.

Houston approved $129.9 million for seven infrastructure projects at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The overview: The projects include aircraft parking, employee parking, stormwater detention, utility improvements and pedestrian bridge repairs.

The city also authorized an agreement with United Airlines to deliver the work. The entire project will cost $229.9 million and Houston will reimburse United Airlines. The first payment of $129.9 million will be disbursed in fiscal year 2026-27. The remaining $100 million will be paid out in FY 2027-28. Funding will come from airport funds.

City officials said international travel at IAH has increased as the airport saw a record of 12.4 million international travelers in 2025. That international demand, along with an expanding route map, underscores the need for infrastructure.

Design and construction are expected over the next three years, officials said.

Also of note: Under the agreement, United will manage development and construction. Houston Airports will reimburse approved project costs from airport system funds and recover those costs through rates and charges paid by airlines and other airport users, including United.

Four candidates are running for Texas lieutenant governor—the second-in-command to the governor—in the Nov. 3 election.

What's happening: Libertarian Anthony Cristo, Democrat Vikki Goodwin and Green Party candidate Kevin McCormick are challenging Republican incumbent Dan Patrick, who is seeking a fourth term.

The lieutenant governor leads the Texas Senate and can exercise the powers of the governor if the governor dies, resigns, is removed from office or is absent from the state, according to the Texas State Historical Association.

How we got here: Patrick won his Republican primary race in March, while Goodwin advanced to the general election after beating another Democrat in a May primary runoff, Community Impact reported. Cristo and McCormick were selected as their parties' respective candidates during nominating conventions in April.

Looking ahead: Early voting in the midterm election runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
