An $82 million project to build the CedarView development’s first apartment complex is expected to begin construction in January, according to paperwork filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The details: Developers of the multifamily project are targeting a completion date in January 2029, the filing states.

The 650,000-square-foot apartment complex will include 12,000 square feet of indoor amenity space, including leasing, a clubroom and fitness center, and two courtyards totaling 30,000 square feet of outdoor space.

Plans for the complex also include a precast parking garage, the filing states.

Williamson County commissioners set the maximum tax rate for fiscal year 2026-27 at the no-new-revenue rate of $0.421547 per $100, saying that residents could see a decrease on their county tax line next year.

By capping the proposed rate at this level, no public hearing is required.

What it means: The no-new-revenue rate calculates the property tax rate that would generate the exact same amount of revenue as last year from existing properties. Williamson County’s current tax rate is $0.413776 per $100.

Because of adjustments in overall home values, residents could experience a reduction in their county property tax bills if the proposed rate is finalized.

Digging deeper: The proposed tax rate supports the county’s recommended general fund budget of $411.6 million. For the road and bridge budget, the budget department recommends a $74.94 million budget, and the recommended budget for the county’s debt service comes out to $232.3 million.

What’s next: Commissioners and county officials will continue finalizing the budget through August, with final adoption votes scheduled for September.

Five-year-old Avry Jo Schapansky rang the bell at Dell Children's Blood and Cancer Center on Aug. 7, celebrating the end of her cancer treatment and marking her as the first patient in Central Texas to complete a stem cell transplant through the hospital's new program.

Why it matters: Before Dell Children's launched the program in August 2025, families needing this level of care had to travel outside Central Texas, often for a month or longer, to hospitals in Houston, Dallas or San Antonio.
Schapansky, diagnosed with high-risk Stage 4 neuroblastoma, underwent a roughly year-and-a-half treatment plan that included chemotherapy, surgery, tandem stem cell transplants and radiation.

Dr. Shannon Cohn, her pediatric oncologist, said the family's decision to stay reflected trust in a brand-new transplant team.

The program was made possible in part through a gift from the Shivers Cancer Foundation, which helped recruit Dr. Amir Mian to lead it, along with a partnership with nonprofit blood center We Are Blood. Dell Children's is now working toward offering CAR T-cell therapy and gene therapy in 2026.

Round Rock ISD will welcome more than 45,000 students for the first day of the 2026-27 school year Aug. 19.

What to expect: Several campus improvement projects funded by the 2024 bond are underway in the district, including renovations to several of the district’s 55 schools.

Some campuses, such as Grisham Middle School, will see the first phase of renovations completed before the start of school.
