Frisco promotes Parks and Recreation director to assistant city manager

Frisco officials promoted the Parks and Recreation director to be the city’s newest assistant city manager.

Shannon Coates was promoted July 1 to the assistant city manager position, according to a July 6 city news release. She was first hired by the city in 2017. 

The details: Since her hire in 2017, Coates’ team has opened more than a dozen parks, trails and facilities including The Grove. Other new parks include Northwest Community Park and Northeast Community Park, which includes a skate park, according to the release.

Looking ahead: While a search for the new Parks and Recreation is underway, Mayra Diaz will serve as the interim director, according to the release. Diaz most recently served as the assistant director of Public Services and has worked at the Frisco Public Library since 2005.

Arvest Bank to open Frisco loan production office

Arvest Bank announced July 6 plans to open a loan production office in Frisco, it’s first in the North Texas market.

What you need to know: The office will open later this year on Preston Road and will be staffed by “a local team of commercial lenders,” a July 6 news release from Arvest states. These lenders will offer “a range of commercial loans, including real estate, lines of credit and equipment financing,” per the release.

“Our physical expansion into North Texas is an exciting step for Arvest and a direct response to the momentum we’re already seeing in the metroplex,” David Madigan, president of Arvest Bank-Southwest Oklahoma, said in the release. “The loan production office allows us to expand our growing commercial loan business and reinforce our commitment to supporting regional businesses with on-the-ground expertise and tailored lending solutions.”

Upcoming projects

1. Frisco Street roundabout additions

Project: Four roundabouts will be added along Frisco Street at Technology Drive, Sports Village Road, All Stars Avenue and Research Road. The intersections will be converted from intersections to multilane roundabouts.

Update: The project is in the design phase with bidding for construction expected early next year.

  • Cost: $12 million
  • Funding source: city of Frisco

2. Spring Creek Corridor Intersection Improvements

Project: New turning lanes, concrete pavement, barrier free ramp reconstruction, sidewalk replacement and signal modifications will be added along Spring Creek Parkway at Jupiter Road, Chase Oaks Drive, Ohio Drive, Preston Meadow Road and Parkwood Boulevard.

Update: The design phase is complete, said Clay Lipscomb, Plano community investment project engineering manager. Construction is estimated to start in 2027.
