First look: Check out Boerne's newest sports card shop

A new sports card shop has just opened its doors in Boerne, filling a niche that Owner Jason Zamora said didn’t exist before in the area.

Long story short: After starting his first card collection at just seven years old, Zamora said that the hobby faded as life went on.

Then, decades later, his son got into Pokemon cards—and he was back into it.

“He started taking me to stores to get those cards, then I saw pretty much all of the brands that I used to collect back in the day,” Zamora said. “From there, I bought a pack, and it just never stopped.”

As a result, the plans for Primetime Sports Cardz were born.

After primarily selling sports cards on eBay for a couple of years, Zamora said that he wanted to take a leap and open his brick-and-mortar near Fair Oaks Ranch.

259 Home Market closing doors after 13 years in Boerne

A local home decor shop is closing its doors after over a decade on the Hill Country Mile.

What you need to know: 259 Home Market, located at 259 S. Main St. in Boerne, is shutting its doors in the beginning of October, owner Jordis Ernst told Community Impact.

The business first opened in the spring of 2012.

Ernst said that she plans to retire, and it will be too difficult to run the shop remotely. As a result, they plan to sell off their entire inventory throughout September, before the official closure later this fall.

The remaining items will be relocated to Ernst’s other business in Comfort, called Salvaged Souls Vintage Market.

A closer look: 259 Home Market, next to a bistro and bar of the same name, sells various Hill Country-themed home decor sets and pieces, such as tables, utensils, pillows, decorations and more.

There's also a large boutique section that carries women’s clothing, jewelry and accessories.

Gov. Abbott signs new congressional map; Texas Democrats vow to fight in court

Gov. Greg Abbott signed Texas’ new congressional map into law Aug. 29, declaring in a video posted to social media that “Texas is now more red in the United States Congress.”

The details: Under Texas’ current congressional boundaries, Republicans hold 25 of Texas’ 38 congressional seats. State lawmakers have said the new map will help them gain up to five more during the 2026 midterm elections.

Texas Democrats have called the mid-decade redistricting effort unconstitutional and "racially discriminatory," while Republicans asserted that the map "complies with the law" and was designed to help more Republicans get elected to the U.S. House.

Next steps: Texas’ new congressional map is set to take effect in early December, although it will be discussed in court two months earlier. After state senators approved the map Aug. 23, the League of United Latin American Citizens and a group of Texas residents filed a lawsuit asking that the map be found unconstitutional.

A panel of three federal judges will hear arguments in the case Oct. 1-10 in El Paso.
